My old faithful has started sounding decidedly sick on idle - misfire and a bit smokey. It has thrown P0263 code which indicates injector 1 is not happy.

Have followed several threads and one stated that changing injector 1 with this code didn't resolve the problem but changing injector 3 did.

Have a refurbed spare injector and so will try 1 first then 3 and see what happens !!

Will check loom first as it is easier.
Anyone else had this code and if so which injector was at fault?

Hi,

Before getting the code, you had certainly some issues before, like smelling exhaust or starting issue.
I had a dying injector, with no code, once replaced no more issue..

Changing the dying injector will solve the problem for sure.
A leak back test can be done to confirm the issue.

So the P0263 is cleared and reappears. P01613 Map also appears on PScan.
Injector balance shows -0.9 to -1.2 for cylinders 2 to 4.
It shows +4 for cylinder 1.
Will be changing injector 1 and trying again.

Interesting couple of hours.
1) Probably a daft thing to do but substituted injector 1 with a refurbed one that I had, only it was an 'auto' one and my engine is from a manual, even though it is now an auto !

Still with me ?

It ran like a pig and the +4 compensation for cylinder 1 went up to +8.

So, with no other injectors at my disposal, stripped and cleaned the original.

Problem solved and cylinder 1 now reads 0.4. Other 3 are just negative. -0.9 to -0.2.

So we now know that an auto injector is fairly majorly different to a manual one !
Live and learn.

I might get a set of auto injectors, using the manual ones may be the source of my labouring on hills and vibration ??

It could be that the injector is faulty in some way, rather the being incorrect. From memory the diesel injectors flow more fuel, which would result in a - compensation value, not a + value.

Could be, it is a bosch serviced injector which had only run a few weeks in another engine.
Do you think a set of auto injectors would be better suited to the auto box torque requirements or no difference ?!

I don't know what the difference is between the auto and manual injectors, but the auto does have 2 BHP more power, if the specs are correct. I can't see 2 BHP needing different injectors, but that's the only obvious difference us laypersons get.

Hello from Canarias,

I know the company Diesel Fix from Neuss and can confirm that they work properly there. The injectors from the TD4
(by the way, they are also used in the 6-cylinder Opel DTI with BMW engine) are very easy to repair and overhaul.
The nozzles and needles are very cheap to get and I think these injectors are no longer in demand very often, hence the low price.

A few days ago I repaired a nozzle 0445110 049 manual gearbox Bosch Nr 0986 435 095 and a 0445110 120 automatic gearbox
Bosch No. 7 785 903 or 983 I noticed that the solenoid coil is slightly different. This probably delays or extends the injection time.
The nozzles were the same for both

Thank you. Really useful information.
4 injectors reserviced for 200 is excellent. They want 30 ukp deposit per injector.
