I got the idea from somebody who posted a thread with the same problem on a V6 so I would like to thank them. It just shows the benefits of club web sites.
steve gR said:Hi Mondo, Why isn't it fitted after the Air Filter?

Look guys ya all missing the point of the maf. . .if ya maf improves yer motor when it is disconnected then its a problem. . .hence the silly maf measures air intake too turbo and at a certain rpm increases speed of turbo according to air/engine temperature and so max efficiency is obtained using this basic sum [simple really] hence the maf is a really important sum , end of basic earthling normal. . .ya dipsticks. . .steve gR said:Hi Mondo,
Same as everybody else, no power below 2500 rpm when turbo kicks in, pulls away from junctions very slowly. Will try and clean it with a decreasing spray when I get a chance. I hope I don't have to replace it. With the MAF disconnected it runs like new. Why isn't it fitted after the Air Filter?

Just cleaned my MAF with a degreasing spray and dried it with dry compressed air. Seems to to be working fine now.
Correct. . .mondo said:Doh!
Now yer ****in tell me!!!!
But wiv it disconected, yer puter uses a default value to achieve the aboveSo, No you wont have max efficiency but yer motor performs better, than with it on
