hi I do not come on here much as due to illness problems any way I have a problem with my freelander 1 td4 2006 servo unit when I push the brake pedal down I can hear the vacuum sucking ,it is squeaking am I right in thinking that the best way is to drop the engine a bit to get better access to it. any help would be appreciated as it is my son in law who will be doing the job. I have done a search but nobody seems to have done this one unless I have missed it.

Hi Teddy, sorry to hear about your problems.

Might be different on the TD4, but on K & L series there appears to be quite a bit of room around the servo - mainly pipes in the way. Is it secured with bolts from the engine bay? Are the bolts not on the other side of the bulkhead (which would make it a right pain!).

Might be worth consulting Rave.

Hi grumpy yes I am suffering from a minor stroke I had in your country plus my other illnesses, but I have had a look and there is not much room and it is bolted from inside it is a thin one but I still think it would mean engine dropping but maybe at the same time I can get a new thermostat put in I do not think I have rave I used to have it before my old computer crashed

Jeepers, maybe it was that last naked Bungy Jump that did it

Don't know if this helps, but this is the page from Rave that covers servo removal. I have 2 versions of Rave, one for my early '99 'yellow indicator' model and another for the MY01 model - this is taken from the MY01 version, don't know if it covers all the way up to your young whipper snapper of a 06 vehicle.

The servo can be removed without messing with the engine. You remove the MC from the servo, and ease it on its pipes to one side. The servo is then unclipped from the pedal and the 4 bolts removed from inside. Then the servo can be wiggled out from the engine bay. It's tight, but is possible to do without removing the top engine mount.

Thank you very much Nodge and grumpy gel my son in law will be please it is horrible getting old with illnesses.
