I'll just consult my crystal ball to work out what model and engine type this is, the ball might take longer to respond given 1999 is a model changeover year with two type of petrol engine and TC systems.

That means that a XA419674 should have....right?
One more thing, the abs modulator says "ABS" instead of "ETC". Does that mean that it isn't the original modulator?

actually, i strongly believe that the previous owner changed that unit for a under spec. and i say that because there are other pieces that should be standard and don't exist...

XA419674 should have 4 wheel TC. Wrong modulator fitted. Up to 1999 two modulators were fitted. Without TC and with rear wheel TC WABCO C system. 1999 and on ALL had 4 wheel TC and WABCO D system..

Then you're bound to have problems as the ECUs are different and fitting an earlier modulator to an older ECU will give braking problems. Also, fitting the earlier modulator instead of the older one requires a botch job as the plugs are different.
Try searching around on the landmania forum as I recall someone over there had exactly the same situation. IIRC his P38 would lock all the brakes for no apparent reason and after inspection the problem was with a wrong modulator having been fitted by a previous owner.

I see in my future that i will be sticking my head inside my RR trying to find out if i have a WABCO D system or not.
Stick it on a Nanocom that will tell you. You have a choice of WABCO C or D diagnostics it should talk to the D ECU but not the C ECU on your car.

In theory you're right but there was a large batch of 99 4.0s with rear wheel-only TC as LR used up their glut of two pin front diffs.
Thought the four pin diffs were only fitted to the front on 4.6 with 4 TC.

4 pin is much stronger ,2 pin has single shaft through an open diff carrier 4 pin has 2 shafts through solid case diff carrier ,though in normal use 4 pin isnt necessary

I remember reading there was a post 99 crossover period and all the P38s ended up with 4 pin front diffs - the 4.6 Thor had them from the off. Front TC put too much strain on the two pin front diffs. Could be wrong I wish I could find the source.
