What mpg does the subaru do??
to be honest i have not checked or paid attention to it but around £40 a week give or take but i only live on the isle of wight so very little travel to get to your destination , im not a boy racer that goes around driving for no reason. im a family man that would rather spend time at home and use the car for what its meant for, getting from a to b. but i dont just want a family car, im looking for something to enjoy at the weekends/od snowy days.

can you change the front ie the bumper, grill, lights maybe bonnet, to make a 99/00 too look like a 2004 front end?

resonably easy to do, the back is do-able too, there's instructions for both upgrade on this forum somewhere.

td4 auto all the way

cheers for info. compared to subaru im sure fuel will be better, also can you change the front ie the bumper, grill, lights maybe bonnet, to make a 99/00 too look like a 2004 front end?

I believe retrofits have been done, but imo it's not worth the hassle unless you're really keen. There's cheaper ways to make your original FL 1 look tad better than standard.

Though personally, if I was buying a standard FL1, I'd do something more like this:

That way, you get to achieve the non standard/more aggressive look with less hassle and less cost. + imo it's more beneficial as it will protect the front of your car better. I don't have much faith in my so called "plastic nudge bars" even though I do prefer the appearance.

Of course, none of this is going to score you brownie points with the hardcore Landy enthusiasts here. But if you don't care about that, it doesn't matter!

yours looks nice, the sort of thing im looking for. what model do you have?

Why have those gaylanders got i-am-bored smileys on the front?

Mine is a Freelander 1 TD4 ES-X.

and is there much between the hard top/ soft top and the wagon?

The wheelbase is the same despite the station wagon looking significantly longer. The station wagon is the most practical, as it has 5 doors. The hard/soft top is probably very nice for when the weather is great. However, it's said to be a fart to remove/replace the top. The hard/soft tops are interchangeable too.

thanks, for looks, im liking that model. are they all auto or can you get manual?

There's many manuals. Mine is a manual. Keep in mind though that the clutch used in the TD4 models isn't the strongest in the world. For normal use it should be fine, but if you're towing or going off road a lot, you will need good clutch control to avoid damaging the clutch release bearing.

i can understand that. standard never does the job. looking to do some small off roading so i should be ok. but i dont mind fixing/ replacing parts. its all part of having cars.

I think we'll see dazz coming back at some point with another one of those threads

"I wish I had listen to you guys...."

if youve got family dont touch a two door ,not only does it make access to the back seat a pain , nobody will like the restricted visibility once they are in there.

If you're looking at a td4, be aware that after driving a subaru you may be dissapointed with a td4's performance.

The 1.8k's can be tuned a bit to get more power out.

Freelanders aren't too different to drive, with the VCU it handles in quite a similar fashion to a 4 wheel drive scoob, albeit a taller version.

answers in red.

If a gaylander is the OPs choice then good luck to him ;)

Hi guys thanks for all comments. Taken on board, what are the common faults on the td4 freelander 1? And bhp? Just wondered so I know what to check out for.
