After chatting with another landy owner at the weekend it seems a lot more are dabbling in the alternative fuel routes so just thought id see how many on here are giving it a go in their doozils.

I have used filtered WVO and blending in my Pajeros and will fit a injector line and inline fuel heater kit to my L series Freelander. I will also fit a water injection kit to clean up any mess just in case...

I'd like to run on some of the stuff but a bit put of as a mate run on bio not sure what mix and had no end of problems this is in aTD5 Disco

ive been running my rr300tdi on svo ,50/50 diesel mix with no problems what so ever.been paying 87p per litre from netto(just gone up to £1.30). now using tesco at £2.98 per 3 litres or makro at £20.52 per 20 litres. very happy

Filtered wasted veg oil from a Thai restaurant, veg and sunflower oil from Tesco, and next will be all the waste engine oil I have knocking around. I sometimes stick in a fiver of diesel to thin it down.

svo 70/30 diesel mix now its worm but 50/50 in the cold

in the 90 and the disco both 200tdi disco engines

Whenever I do my oil change I dump it in as fuel (after filtering it through a fine 'mesh') :D

What's BoB bit?

been burning wvo for about 18 months,

only prob so far is a load of crap building up in the bottom of the tank, syphoned it out and all fine again,

burning about 90% wvo at the mo, so my fuel bill is feck all :D

What's BoB bit?

an obligatory option to all polls in lz, otherwise know as bob is gay, bob was gay etc.

been trying mine on 100% svo this week and other than taking a little longer to start and the smell it doesnt seem too bad. Has also reminded me i need to reseat the exhaust downpipe.

If I keep using svo i think im gonna start mixing it with doozil tho even if its just a 5 or 10% mix

Being the honest chaps that you all are you will be telling HMRC that you use old engine oil as fuel and pay the duty..................WON'T YOU!!!!!!1

Coz if you get dipped they will treat you like a red doozel tax cheat.

Currently in the U.K. it is permitted to use up to 2,500 litres of BioDiesel as a road fuel per year without the need to register and pay Duty to HMRC on each and every litre of fuel used.

However if you should use 2501 litres in a year, then you then will need to register with the HMRC and pay the Duty on ALL the 2501 litres fuel, Not just the 1 litre over the 2500 De-Minimis limit....

The De-Minimis 2K5 limit applies to 'Bio' sourced fuels ONLY.

Therefore, things like used-engine oil, Hydraulic Oils ATF fluids, transformer oils coolant oils residual oils etc, as well as Kerosine, Heating oils are NOT ALLOWED under this 'allowance'

The unorthorised use of these type fuels will contravine the Hydrocarbons Act and you will be in very hot water if caught using these as fuel in a Road-Going vehicle.

Fuels sourced from BioMass such as Ethanol should be checked at the time with HMRC as these can be covered under separate regulations.

Vegetable oil based fuels such as mixtures of veg-oil and Petrol and Std Duty-Paid Diesel are OK.

Proper BioDiesel MADE from veg-oils are also OK.

Tried 75/25% SVO/Diesel and now trying 90/10% mix SVO/Petrol in my Disco 300TDi and workes fine other than starting up taking a bit longer... I don't mind that when I'm saving £££ though! Installing an electric in-line heater just before the filter soon and or maye an electric heated fuel filter... we'll see.

been slowly increasing mine on so, no on 50 50 mix, but startig work early means its still cold so waiting till its warmer to go any further.

at 99p per litre still in our 99p shop,
KTC brand new, clear veggie oil running at 50/50 is just fine in my 200 dti disco,
it starts great in this normal weather,
but in very cold i try to put les than 50/50,
or i put a drop of unleaded in as well.

must admit, even being caught in the cold i have been running 50/50 at times, but a cold start with glow plugs then letting it tick over for 5 minuets helps,
even letting it stand after warming up helps too...

the old girl has never ever let me down, and for that I love it even more so.

Mostly SVO + diesel, but have used allsorts, 2 stroke, engine oil, filtered WVO. I used to get WVO from a local chippy and setup a tank, pump and pipes to send it through a nylon stack of filters then a fuel filter to a 'clean' tank.

Currently just buy SVO in 20l drums and tip it in, with 'some' diesel every time ... ;)

Been running like this for about 40000+ miles with no issues .. even cold starting (good battery and Glowplugs) hasn't ever been a problem.

My glowplugs are just standard, main thing is making sure the battery has water and good charge .. ;)
