My 110 has failed its DOE (MOT) on a few things which I have almost sorted. The one that I'm stuck on is the cover or washers over the bottom bushes on the rear shock (damper). I dont know what they are called so its hard to serch for them, I need both top and bottom on the bottom of the shock if that makes sense. Anyone know what they are called or have a part number for them?
Thanks Jim

Cheers Busterbus, I've looked all over your photo guides and the best help was the axel removal one, it at least proved that its not part of the axel. I think its the washer guide on that diagram you posted.

They help alright because that part is not is not in any of the photos, maybe its like the dust shield over the break discs, not needed.

I may be about to show my immense stupidity here... but do you mean the washer that almost surrounds the lower bush in this pic?

...well if you do then you can see the marks on this one where I spent 5 mins knocking the hell out of it with lump hammer & cold chisel to free it from the lower bracket. I then concluded it was part of the lower bracket (on a TD5) so spent another 5 mins knocking it back into shape:doh:.

It does look like yours is cracked in your pic, not sure how you'd replace it.

Tel900 thats it, I wonder if I cut it off would it not be the same as every other defender then and it might pass the MOT.

If it was me I'd .........

Cut it off.
Find some steel tubing of the correct diameter.
Cut some rings off the tube and weld them to the bracket.
They dont need to be seam welded just tacked.
Clean and paint - job done.
Its only there to locate the bush and keep the shock central.
You'd probably find that if you cut off both sides and tidied it up the MOT guy would not even pay them any attention.

Job done. I took two hours off work this morning and went to the test center to ask the guy who failed it what exactly he wanted done. He arrived for work in a lifted 200 tdi Disco with a high lift jack bolted to the back, this man knows a thing or two about landys I thought . He said all that it needed was a couple of new bushes which I'd fitted and a few other bits and bobs that I'd done last week. He cheaked it all out and was happy enough to give me a ticket and said the back shocks will need replacing shortly but he knows where I can get them cheap.:D Thanks for all the help and advice lads.
:smokin:

Good result Slim Jim. So you were able to leave the cracked washer thing in place and it was just the bush it failed on?
