Hi all, question on the dreaded suspension faults cropping up. got a 2010 D4 HSE, had a few issues with warning lights, and error code C1A18 - pressure increases too rapid when filling reservoir. - i have seen lots of posts that say even when put into dealers they still fail to fix it. i have changed the normal (front valve block / mid-valve block, and due to lots of other triggering issues and a battery at 12.3 volts replaced that as well, and don't get me wrong, it is better, but not fixed. I just want to see if i am missing anything before i head for the compressor change. seen posts saying this did not sort, and i have to say, it feels like an electrical / signal issue as intermittent. Just wanted view on whether i should just go for the compressor? thanks in advance

If it is the original compressor then it is most likely tired.
You can buy a service kit for them, which is basically some dessicant and felt filters.

Hi, all those things you changed have not much to do with that fault code cos according to the WsM it's about:

in the D3 protocol they say it can be the pressure sensor too but otherwise the same issues are revealed, i'd blame the compressor if the fault was about pressure increasing too slow with C1A20

plus 1 what’s already been said

the air reservoir tank can leak along the weld on the top of the tank , might be an idea to remove the lower compressor cover and use some soapy water around all of the pipes and compressor cap, plus the valve blocks you’ve replaced as the Voss connectors can also leak

As a side note if u take a pic of the compressor plse it would be handy for future ref as there are 2 x types

If nothing is evident , get hold of a 6mm push fit cap and where the pipe goes to the air tank from the reservoir valve block cap that off so in effect ur blocking off the air tank , then see if it makes any difference

At this stage if it’s still throwing codes ur need diagnostics as ur then be able to see the live data of the air suspension system , also very handy to have a multimeter

Please don’t dive head first otherwise ur drive yourself nuts in trying to find the errors

See you’ve fitted a new battery and don’t wish to come across trying to teach u how to suck eggs but plse give the new battery a full charge

Hope that also helps on top of the advice from other members

hi all, thanks for the quick responses - to answer some of the questions -

- it used to drop at night, but not since the front valve change, so that cured that (i actually changed front legs as well
- battery voltage is fine
- compressor is the Hitachi one
- changed the compressor relay just in case it was a cheap fix!

It does not appear to have low / poor air pressure issues. she will raise and lower happily, and if the code comes up, once you turn off and lock it resets. If it was not the fact that i tow with it (big leisure caravan) i probably would not bother.
