hi guys .....in the back door of my disco is a little sub box thing and I fancy trying to get it to work but all the rubber has perished on one of the little subs.....so 2 quessies.....were do i get a new speaker or a new unit....and 2....how do you wire the thing up do you need a factory head unit or can it be wired seperately.....Cheers....Rog...xx:rolleyes:

take it out and see if there is a makers name/model number on it.
if you dont mind an alternative unit, then try somewhere like maplins for a similar unit.
the existing wires can be just cut and connected/soldered up.

Hi Roger,
I work in the Speaker/Sub industry and we no longer do a 6in Sub,
But If you want any speakers, sub's, amp's or sub box's look at the Fli or VIBE stuff and I can sort you a good price.

Trevor.

Cheers guys that info is helpful but what i dont understand is how to wire it up.....the 2 little subs have a heavy little amp thing on the top of them so they must need power to them so were on the head unit to I wire them too.....I have a jvc KD-HL401 if that helps.....as you may gather im not very good at this sort of stuff its outside my usual what size of hammer do I need to take to my Land Rover tool kit....lol....cheers...xx

Hi mate,

Not quite sure about how to wire it up etc, however i recently needed a new rear speaker for my Disco and got one for £3 from a scrap yard. However as i was taking the speaker out i did notice that all of them also still had the rear base units still in them, so why not try a scrap yard first.

aftermarket amps and subs are wired as follows......

amp to headunit - phono lead (black and red / white and red cables and connectors) should be sockets on the back of unit and on amp.

negative & positive feeds from battery

wiring from amp to sub.

sub to amp

simply just high capacity speaker cable.

as for the subs you are talking about...... would i find any in a 300tdi disco on an r reg???? i am trying to get better sound from mine and haven't found any. are they in the back doors? mine is a 3dr version.

There were none on Ebay guys that I could find but that means nothing......as for the wiring again its not a conventional amp with phono leads and all that malarky it has its own plug but I dont know how it should be wired to the head unit.....has anyone tried to re wire these speakers to a standard stereo....or would you need a Land Rover head unit....I dunno guys but they look as if they may be worth trying to get powered up and sorted out....someone must have them working in there Landy......cheers....xxxx

it may be wiring that goes into the speaker ports on the head unit.

my amp came with the option of phono output for a sub OR amplification to the speakers - the output to multiple subs is probably the same on this - they should simply wire into the FL, FR, RL & RR positive and negative speaker sockets (or either front or rear if its only a 4 wire harness)

stick some pictures on putfile or something to give us a better idea of what it looks like!
