Has anyone done this on a V8 90? I was going to put the exits, one each side in the quarter panels at the back behind the wheels so two pipes, one from each bank, probably in 70mm stainless.

I've read everything about silencers and I realise that I run the risk - so be it, but I was wondering whether it might be too loud (just got back from the Le Mans Classic and realise how quiet all road cars are).

The threads on here seem to be putting straight throughs on the diesels.

I tried a straight through on my series 2a V8 and although it sounded awesome it was way too loud on the road,so a made the system myself where the two downpipes join at the back of the gearbox and then a 3" pipe goes from there to to a big stainless back box from an impretza which exits through the rear panel behind the drivers side rear wheel,its still loud but sounds nice now
 
U must have a MOT tester as a friend as that would be a 'fail'.

"A silencer in such condition, or of such a type, that the noise emitted from the vehicle is clearly unreasonably above the level expected from a similar vehicle with a standard silencer in average condition."

I thought that might be the case. I'm tempted to have an exhaust each side (why not make a job as complicated as it possible can be whenever possible is my motto!!) but I think it might be an idea to put it through a central box of some sort, or I suppose a smaller one on either side.

Do you remember how big the box was? What diameter pipe did you use from the headers to the collector - I think I'm going to go 4 into 1 coming down from the each bank and then two pipes from there?

Might make it up with that a silencer in mind and add it later though after a couple of blats!!

If you want it to be loud, an 8" cherry bomb will suffice to complete your silencer requirement without sacrificing much noise

If you want more noise get a cherry bomb extreme

The frontpipes are standard rangerover but i modified them to fit up tight to the chassis so i dont rip them off when offroad

Not that bothered about it being very loud - I just don't want to muffle the V8 too much. I've spent a lot of time on the engine itself (9 months and counting) so to do all of that and then restrict the flow by silencing any more than necessary seems a shame. Any ideas what sort of db that set up would give?
 
What are muffled headers? Will they not restrict flow significantly from the exhaust ports?

Interestingly I took a TVR silencer apart recently (obviously not to weld straight through pipes in and weld it back together) and the silencer was only a piece of perforated pipe surrounded by fibreglass wadding so the flow wasn't restricted but it had a significant effect on sound levels.
 
Are you thinking of putting a Y pipe in because if not you will power.These engines need some sort of balance pipe from the headers to run correctly.
