Hey guys,

I currently have the headlining out of my TD5 twin-sunroof disco, and am looking to stop the leaks for good. I have previously had water dripping out of the boot-light as well as the light above the gear-stick too.

I can't see anything too obvious as a cause, but suspect it might be breakdown of the sealant between the roof and the sunroof top-side, as well as possibly blocked drain tubes. I will blow these through but while I am at it, I want to fix any possible leak issues.

I was thinking of using Flashband bitumen-tape as has been mentioned before around the plastic drain hose boxes on the sunroof tray. Do people put the bitumen tape on the underside of the box, or 'inside' the box?

I was also thinking about using a strip of this underneath the plastic outer of the sunroof between it and the roof, rather than siliconing it to the roof. Anyone tried this, or any thoughts as to why it might or might not be a good idea?

Had few leaks on my disco, I found I had to take the rubber strip off the top of the windscreen and seal all the way along and down each side, also sealed the roof bars at the bottom this still did not work so I decided to sit in disco when it was tipping it down with a torch and sure enough I found the DRIP DRIP , it was coming from the top left of the winscreen just behind the spot welds where the winscreen sits. Sealed it up and upto now the headlining has been dry.

But I def advise taking the foam from under the carpet as mine was soaked even after 3 or 4 weeks with out rain.
 
Well, had both sunroofs out, silkoflex sealed between the plastic sunroof 'upper' and the bodywork.

Glued both rear sunroof stubs back on using araldite, using biro tubes inside them to provide added support.

Removed and re-glued rear sunroof plastic drain boxes to the metal frame as they were loose.

Used flashband flashing tape on both sides of the plastic boxes on both sunroofs to ensure the seals to the metal frame were waterproof.

Waiting for new sunroof rubber seals also..
Now, time to pour some water.... Better not DARE leak...!
 
Haha, it doesn't leak any more. Adjusted the tailgate striker to pull the door in a bit tighter as it wasn't sealing properly.

So what does the blighter do now? The seals in the power steering box decide to let go so now it's leaking PAS fluid. Bastard.

it is probably not your seal around the roof...There is lots and lots about this on forums etc , it seems to be a common fault on TD5s. I have read it is..a broken plastic spigot which is attached to the drain tubes. I belive it takes about 3 hours in total to fix..headlining out etc. Sorry cant be more helpfull....my pc motherboard/graphics card has just gone..I have all links to this probelm saved on that pc. If you still have no joy in about 2 weeks I should have my pc up and running and send you the info.

Hi Alan,

In my case, it *was* the seal around the roof for the rear sunroof, and the sealant having de-sealed between the metal sunroof frame and the plastic spigot - the box and spigot were intact but just no longer sealed to the frame allowing water to leak around it.

Having resealed the roofs, and flashband-taped around the plastic boxes, it is no longer leaking :)

So, don't believe everything you read about everybody having snapped off spigots - there are other causes :)

Hi, my disco sunroofs both leaked,the seal had come away from the roof, I just ran a bead of gasket sealant round the edge of the seal and 18 months later still no leaks. Although if you read my 1st ever post on here I now have an over fueling problem!! What is it with disco's and their quirks!!!
