Have you changed the high pressure fuel pump regulator O rings yet? A failed O ring won't show up as a fault code. But will stop is starting without assistance of some easy start. ;)
Yeah been changed mate. Tried easy start but doesn't start with the aid of that

So had the guy out with his computer. Plugged it in and no fault codes were there. We done the live data whilst attempting to start it. 2 of the injectors read 0

So would suggest injectors
Everything else checked out fine etc

Looks like your going to have to bite the bullet dude...refurb or new dont buy again from scrappy...at least you know now the issue.

Will ask mate if you want to get yours refurb where they used before he moved down here you might even be able to do a bit of name dropping always helps...cheers Rob

Managed to get 4 reconditioned injectors today and picked up new copper washers. Fitted them and still the same. Tried and runs for a second or 2 but severe low revs where input on the accelerater pedal makes no difference then goes back to cranking
Bloody car.

Any further idea's?

Thanks

Havnt spoken to mate been laid up with the cold but last time he mentiond a valve will ask him again....have you tried a squirt of easy start now youve done injectors

Mates not able to take calls at mo hes trying to clear backlog of broke motors so youll get someone else who wont know what your talking about and just waste your time...however no start on refurb injectors he says check timing...no start on easy start check compresion...

hi folks, sorry for the lack of activity but i unfortunately suffered a badly dislocated and broken ankle so that put me out the game for a while. Still broken and awaiting surgery but now more than ever desperate to get this freelander on the road so that my misses car drive us around as i cant at the moment.

with all the issues and new parts fitted as described in the above thread , if this was your car where would you be looking next?

ive seen some threads that have suggested the HP fuel pump?
or the fuel rail sensor?

as always i appreciate the help from everyone on this forum

thank you in advance

Sorry to hear about your injury.

There are so many of these TD4 not starting issues at the moment with subtle difference - like yours chugging away on low revs before dieing.

For it not to start on easy start though is a big alarm bell! When the engine cranks the valves action as normal and it will be sucking the easy start in as fuel - if there's fuel in the cylinders it SHOULD ignite - there's nothing else needed - injectors, ECU etc.

So that points to it not being a fuel or electrical issue - and points to a mechanical issue. Even the low revs makes it sound like the electrics are working and fuel being delivered - but there is a mechanical issue making the engine struggle.

As Nodge said previously, a compression test may be in order - there was an example where bad injectors had basically eaten away at cylinders because of fuel burning incorrectly which I'm sure was TD4.

Stealing Nodge's advice on another issue, its possible the exhaust (cat) is blocked. I'm not sure I've seen an example of a TD4 suffering this on the forum, but there was a V6 that had problems due to a blocked cat. I don't know if you can simply disconnect the exhaust to see if it will fire.

I've never used easy start, so not sure whether you're squirting it into the air filter box or removing the intercooler hose and squirting it in "closer" to the engine - but are there any blockages between where you're squirting it and the engine - eg internal delaminated hoses, blocked intercooler etc.

Are you sure you were using the easy start correctly?

thank you very much for your reply and advice. the easy start has been squirted in both the air intake and thru the intercooler pipe but both failed. it was running slightly with very low revs when being towed behind another car but again when I put the clutch in it cut and even with my foot planted on the accelerater it made no difference at all

I have a guy out with a faults computer that came up about the injectors so I replaced these from a working vehicle and got him back out. He cleared the faults and the car again very slightly with low revs was going but only for a few seconds then just went back to turning over.
He was meant to come back out as it was dark at the time and unfortunately has not and will not return my calls. Great Mobile mechanic

If I found another mobile guy would they be able to do a compression test? I'm not sure what's involved in it.

Never heard about the exhaust issue for a td4 but worth a look tho

When I got the car it ran , sometimes would bounce in and out of limp home mode but it did run and it ran well so I'm at a complete loss now

I've so far changed

Injectors
Cam cover and gasket
Hp regulator
Lp fuel pump (under back arch)
Air filter
Cut off switch (under bonnet)
Glow plugs

Think that's it but I may remember more ( bloody pain killers )

One other thing that people have done on the TD4 and that is to replace the regulator the wrong way round on the injection pump - I don't have one so don't know what that means or looks like - but presumably its easily done.

Not sure if that would allow it to chug on low revs, and definitely wouldn't stop it firing with easy start.

Yeah I've tried this wee trick. It allowed the low chugging revs as it didn't do it before I turned it.
Bloody car's. Never simple
