4t == thought?

greyish smoke would be unburnt/partially.

you sure the glows are working?

you can take them out turn em over and check the pattern. or have a specialist have a look.

you tried a can of forte and blatting it down the motorway for an hour?

you ran any veg or anything unusual? timing belt done recently, etc

My money is on injectors, rock up at a bosch service center half hour before your scheduled appointment, pull the injectors and get them to service them right there and then, pop them back in and away you go.

I tried veg in summer my old 1 loved it all year round but this 1 doesnt seem to like it as much so ive run it on diesel all the time since.

Hi

Did you clean out the Sedimenter and change the fuel filter ?

Veg oil can cause all sorts of problems with filters and this is made worse in the colder weather. As the engine runs the fuel is recirculated back into the fuel tank etc and this warmer fuel dissolves various substance that can precipitate out in colder weather and cause fuel supply problems.

Think about draining the tank, and adding a fuel additive like Millers diesel ecomax, or another king of cetane improver. A fuel injector cleaner could also be a good idea.

Have you confirmed you are getting 12V at each of the four glow plugs ?

Jonathan

It was over 8 month ago when i tried the veg oil. Can i remove the sedimeter n fit another fuel filter housing in same place.as i think that could be the issue and is stuck. If no joy at seximeter end im goin try fuel pump n injectors.

deffo do the sedimenter. just crack on and get it off. stick a new seal kit on.

just to confirm, i thought you already checked for air leaks everywhere. have you looked on the top of the tank, all filters, joints, etc?

Hi

re the Sedimenter, if I remember correctly it is a 11mm spanner on the centre bolt on the top of the unit.

Do not replace it with another filter , just clean it out, It can be replaced with a new Sedimenter if required or if it is the problem some people bypass it and remove it totally, and rely on changing the fuel filter twice as often.

Glad you said twice as frequent changes but there is a lot to be said for sedimentors and pre-filtering, just remember that sedimentor is also a water trap, water getting to a mecanical fuel injector pump is a F###ing bad thing!!! Our old berlingo needed a bew FIP caused by a week standing with bad diesel out of the old steel tank just before we scrapped it, cost over €1000, a brand new genuine sedimentor from LR aint that much I know!

Yes I agree I have kept mine on and the Sedimenter is an important part of the fuel system on my Disco, but I do not understand why it was never fitted to Defenders? I have both cars and after the first time I cleaned the crap out of the Sedimenter on the Disco out I could not understand why they are not fitted to Defenders, especially when they are more likely to have a harsher life than a Disco!

I change the Fuel filters on my Disco every year and Defender every six months regardless of my very low mileage. ( approx. 2,000 pa for each car.)

Checked plugs and relay and power goes to them and stops once started.

Ordered a seal kit for sedimeter so hoping that comes soon.

I tried to drain the sedimeter today and it snapped off. Nothing is leaking out

So im goin to bypass it.

What is the best way to bypass it. And does much fuel leak out any tips will be helpful.

I didn't lose much when I took the sedimenter off for cleaning, the fuel doesn't easily flow unless being pumped as the sedimenter is about level with the top of the tank.

One little tip, wrap the sedimenter in a plastic bag before undoing the 11mm (I think) top screw, then you're less likely to get diesel down your arms when it drops off .. :)

diesel arm is an initiation rite :D

Its a landrover all fluids are initiation.qnd crap in ya eyes rusty bolts n general pain in the arse jobs.

Oh the joys of landrovers
