So my disco started struggling start when left overnight and y am at work.

Ive changed
Sender unit
Leak off pipes
Heater plugs

Tried the up hill down hill test and seems the same between 3 and 10 seconds to fire up on 3 cylinders most time till revved n 4th kicks in

Are the heater plugs,staying on for the right amount of time?.
 
I always turn key wait for light to go out then start her up.

Glow light stays on for few seconds then goes out

ok,but do they stay on,for the correct amount of time.Ok yours come on,but are they on for long enough.
 
Hi

Look for an air leak, diesel leek in the fuel filter under the bonnet and from the sedimenter a in the rear wheel arch and the fuel pick up pipe on top of the fuel tank. Clean out the sedimenter and replace the fuel filter in case it has a damaged seal etc.

Also consider replacing the fuel lift pump if you can not find any leaks anywhere else.

Some people look for air leaks by replacing a piece of fuel pipe in the engine bay with clear plastic pipe to see if it is pure fuel being sent to the FIP or if there are any air locks. I am not sure exactly where they put the plastic pipe.

How long should they stay on 4.i just turn it over once light has gone on

How do i check they stay on. There new plugs in.
 
No leaks anywhere from any pipes sedimeter or filter.

Systems bin bled after replacing sender. Should i have bled it after changin the leak off pipes.
 
Hi

Once the engine is running there is no need to bleed again, as the flow of fuel will flush out any air. However any small hole will let air be sucked in via the Venturi effect.

Are you sure your battery and starter motor are up to the job ? is the engine turning over at different speeds when cold / hot, although based on your original description it sounds like an air / fuel problem or possibly glow plugs ?- is there voltage at each plug and the relay output?

Il check the voltage to the plugs when i get back. It turns over quite strong when its left. Takes few seconds to fire but when hot itl fire instantly.

The relay is under bonnet by fuse box aint it for plugs
 
you tried priming via the lift pump before takeoff? also cheap fuel filters are a known air leak.. but a couple of seconds doesn't sound like much tbh.
 
If it starts well when hot that would suggest an issue with the glow plug system somewhere ,check voltage at each plug and how long voltage stays

Were they quality plugs as cheapos can fail quite quick ,if the relay is giving correct voltage for the correct time it may be worth taking plugs back out and checking none have bulged at the ends and test them by putting 12v to them ,they should glow cherry red at the ends

But it could be an air leak ,mine does the same if left over night parked up hill so i always park it down hill
 
It does sound like mine when i park uphill but he says hes tried that and it made no difference
I know what your saying trax but mine wouldnt start easily from cold if not heated
 
Never wait for my glow plugs, just jump in and turn key and away she goes,
if your getting a misfire on startup poss fault with injector/low compression?
Did this fault suddenly come or has it gradually got worse???
 
Its fired on 3 for long time but the strugglin to start has just happened. The plugs are ngk and were brand new fitted last night 12 feb.
 
Still struggling tried pumping fuel through from fuel pump to filter see if that helped but it didnt it still struggled
 
black smoke or blueish/white?

it sounds less like fuel and more like poor compression/knackered injectors

what mileage is it on?

and are you sure your starter isn't being lazy? it should be a fast, strong crank

if it's a bit worn and low on compression, then glows will help. see what happens when you cycle the glows twice.

if you don';t think the glows work. pull the relay and look for the two thick wires and spades. 1 and 2 iirc. joining them together should put juice to the glow plugs.

connect them together for 30 seconds when cold, then carefully shove em back on the relay and see if it starts.

be careful the brown one (1) is from the battery and is live. (actually, follow that back, doesn't it go to some fusable thing on a disco. make sure it's not blown)

got a multimeter?
