Is there a definitive answer to the solution for a stiff gear change when the gearbox gets hot.??
 
Can also be the bottom bush needs replacing

After a long run in my Discovery, when the gearbox gets hot, the gear lever becomes stiff when moving from side to side. Why?
The nylon cage at the end of the selector rail can swell when hot, and cause friction. To rectify this, the parts needs replacing. You can find this part here
 
I recently changed the oil in mine and refilled with the correct type MTF. I wasn't really expecting any change but the difference in gear changes is great. Much smoother and quieter. I always had trouble selecting first, now drops in without effort.

I have the correct genuine oil in the gearbox. My Disco has only done just over 100k and the oil has been changed twice. It does freshen up the gear change though.

Yes,
that's the potentially offending Railko bush.
At it's worst it breaks up & you get jammed in odd gears. Mine chose Reverse - lol.
