Just recently my 2002 Disco2 has developed an odd stickiness on the gearstick after I've driven it fast (80mph lol) for a while on a mway.

All is ok with selection when cold and town traffic, just gets very heavy - almost like really thickened oil - when hot. As soon as I sllow it in town again, the stickiness leaves?

My thinking is too low gearbox oil level? or worn out oil?

60,000 miles on clock, mostly motorway driving

any ideas / anyone same?

I'd be checking me gearbox oil level and probably changing it quite soon. It sounds like your oil is either knackered or has mostly dripped out onto the road.

oil was ok. no signs of anything untoward in the box..

my Disco is still doing this - but only on a journey of over 75mph and for more than 30 minutes???? other than that, it does seem a bit sticky dropping from 3rd to 2nd gear - anyone any similar experience???

r380's run hotter than older boxes and can suffer from this. check your gearbox oil cooler is not obstructed or gunked up.

My 2002 manual is exactly the same. Under 70 fine, over 70 sticky.
I solved the problem by keeping under 70 !!!!!.

( although 2.7 lt of MTF 94 is going in the box next week at service ! ).
Will post if this makes any differance.

50pence (ha ha!).. do let me know as I've checked everything.. oil was last changed by dealer (maybe that's the problem!!!)
