I'm interested to hear what upgrades people have gone for?

I've got the standard radio/cassette with CD changer, unfortunately I don't have a CD cassette. In the New Year I have 6 to 7 hour drive to the north of Scotland and I think I'd take a sharp left in the middle of the Forth Road bridge if I have to rely on the radio...

I'm not looking to spend too much money, ideally I'd like to just replace the changer in order I can plug in an iPod. Interested to know if anyone has done that and what the solutions are like. I've seen early Dension kit in other cars and it wasn't the most intuitive.

Failing that a cheap head unit that offers iPod connectivity.

i have the std BMW (c42) head unit which is a tape player and have a Connects2 adapter plugged into it, this gives you a lead which you can plug your ipod into, you can get one which charges the ipod as well but i have the CTVLRX001 which is a straightforward headphone jack type adapter and allows you to use any mp3 player, in hindsight the ipod one would have been functionally better... i got mine from Dyanmic sounds who were pretty crap at customer service/shipping but cheap so i suppose you get what you pay for, fitting took about 10 mins and anopther 30 mins to force the head unit back in (damned cables at the back!)

also meant to add i gouged a little hole out of one of the blank switches near to the ashtry and have the cable dsticking out from there, so you cannot see anything installed other than the phono cable which sits neatly in the storage area at the base.

Hi I use a JVC KD-R 721 bluetooth, usb, cd, RDS cost just over £100 and then got a remote adaptor so steering controls work (if you are interested I will post you contact of guy who sorts out interface). This has full bluetooth, remote mike the lot and interfaces just great....sound quality excellent. No cables required for music just bluetooth....hands fee is a boon .... Makes the old LR gear from my old 2001 model look like it was made in the dark ages......
