1997 p38 i dont have any radio fitted in the car and the steering wheel controls dont work cannot get cruise control to set/work is this due to not having the standard radio fitted regards gaz.

could be the steering coupler from my experience , does the horn work? Is the SRSlight on?

Diesel or petrol?

Reason I ask is, the cruise control works differently in each.

Having no radio there will not affect the cruise control buttons, they are on a different circuit altogether. Is the wheel original to the car?

Can you hear a relay engage when you press the set button on cruise? You need to be above the minimum speed to engage. If you can hear the relay then check under the bonnet for the rubber vacuum hoses, they are probably split/perished around the T piece....

You have pressed the button in the dash switch panel on haven't you??
