hi, first of all thanks for taking the time for looking at my problem, and even more thanks if you try and help.

in our family we have an M Reg range rover think its a 2.5 maybe 3.5 deisel turbo. i nicked it off me dad for the day as its so snowy and its alot more stable than my little car. problem is, i will be driving down the road at a stable speed and all of a sudden the car seems to veer to left or right. it kinda takes you by shock when it happens. also seems to be alot of play in the steering at speed, u can shake the wheel a bit and the car wont really. seems to be a gap of just nothing.

Any idea on what this problem is.
i been told it could be the lower arm bushes???? would this seem right???
anything else it could be???? im thinking the steering rods could be worn giving that gap of nothing when shaking the wheel, does that sound right.

Do a search for tramlining...the car will follow lines in the road...fresh tarmac that sort of thing...usual cause is big wheel and tyre setups....or it cold just be a normal p38

first thing to check is whether the steering box needs to be adjusted but it has to be done carefully lift the bonnet and have someone wiggle the steering wheel without moving road wheels whilst you look at where the shaft goes into the steering box you will be able to see if there is excessive play if it needs adjusting do it carefully. This is however only the start afraid search the site and you will find there are all sorts that need to be right for it to steer properly good luck
