Mr @dieseldog69 , how are we going to combine my winch bumper with this please? Haha! I really wanted the optional extra one but this is pretty close and still includes the light guards

I have been thinking about this a lot, buy it, we'll figure it out and I am thinking that the lower portion gets sliced off and 5mm strapping or plate can be welded on and mounting holes drilled to bot it directly to the front of the winch bumper.

Cut it off under the squares and in them squares weld the new mounting plates.

I’ve held out at the moment! I was meant to collect but had to go to dogs trust. I tried to adopt a 6 month old cocker to work in the field. They made it so difficult that ironically I am just going to buy a puppy next year. I’m going to see a breaker tomorrow - anything you need and I’ll add to list

Ps it’s a 3 door

I had same theory!!!

Chassis work is tough going!! I’m pulling out more than I thought. We expect that though don’t we. Just annoying to find a bodge or a Mosiac underneath when I chop through. Chassis wise on the fender I have remaining :
  • rear of fuel tank bracket cross member
  • Fish plates over the rear as I don’t like all the patching from previous owner
  • End plates to be fabbed and welded to new a frame mount cross member
  • A new rear quarter bottom side! - May sleeve this.
  • Atleast one bump stop mount and potentially a spring hanger - depends if I can get away with chopping inside of it out.

It sounds real nasty but again, we are used to that now!!! Oh and angle plates under a frame cross member.
Front end of chassis doesn’t look bad - I did that one patch in the bay but that’s it. I’d like to get to the inner rails around engine mounts but that means more work so we will see.

That's a bit more than you had planned, but then again, mine has turned out the same lol

I wouldn’t build one with any signs of corrosion now without a galv chassis with how much fenders are worth now. Maybe if it was really clean, and just odd bit, I could but after my d1 chassis and this chassis, I’ll be putting 3k within a defender budget if I did. There’s a beautiful td5 in bronze green near me. I’d love it. Hilux is a brilliant machine, but no love there. I wanna see where I can take this d1 though. I’d love to get it to the point where it could be my main truck

I ran mine as my daily driver, it was a hoot, probably put road biased A/Ts on it if I did again.

With ya 100% on galv chassis on a fender project.

In fairness, there are still a few D1s out there with good chassis that never saw more than a caravan an camping site, would be a good buy these days.

I’m always on the look out as is marmaduke, Kev and all the other silly d1 people haha. I think mine should last for a bit welded up. Atleast I hope!

Just gave the rear another lick of paint. Looks like an hour of non rain tomorrow. Was gunna shoot for last bit of pillar to arch to enable me to get rear panels fitted. Maybe Santa will get me a rivet gun early. Been putting off tying my boot floor in to floor pan. It’s intimidating me to be honest. I want to get the rear done before I start on last wing. Not sure what I’m doing with the front body mounts/sill bodges at the moment. I should probably revise my list. There’s mech stuff to do if it doesn’t totally pour down so there’s that. Also a load of seam sealing inside.

Was good weather today and had a free day. Went well.

can anyone @Hicap phill @dieseldog69 @The Mad Hat Man confirm what this plug is for? The ones coming through the rear door are connected but can’t find a place for it?

Tacked in rear arch plate and married to it up to my bit of arch. Once in place I got the floor roughly the right height and started on my pillar. It was nasty so took right back. I need to put that double edge on the outer arch but have made it difficult for myself! Might just put a few 10mm wide ‘L’ brackets in to make it a bit tougher. rear lights fitted to see where my water leak is. I think it’s the rear door but we will see. The seal is shot but I wouldn’t expect little puddles to come through. After messing about so much trying to get rear quarter perfect I realized the door has sagged on hinge slightly which could’ve been cause of the huge gap. Never mind. I need to put some fat screws in to beef up as didn’t get all bolts to line and a couple broke the rivnut when being persuaded.

That plug with the four wires is for the back door sub an extra speakers I think, should have an ignition live, an earth and two speaker wires.

Bloody good progress, I went shopping, it was expensive, I'm both happy and not happy simultaneously :rolleyes:

I bet you're almost wishing you had just truck cabbed it and built a flat bed for it now lol

Your pooch would have loved that front passenger seat all to himself :)

I didn’t no - I decided I want the oem one so will hold out. Re the wires - that makes sense. I’ll mark it!!
I didn’t want to pickup it - I have my ideas laid out just not configured. Might do some sketches tonight.
I’m doing a few shoots and looking to get my shotgun license this coming year. Hoping to get a little hunt dog too at some point. The landy is going to be my shooting/fishing/laning truck and maybe even a daily if I get a nice end product.
The plan is:

bulkhead from yourself behind front seats

metal windows (need to speak to Phil when I get round to doing it)

metal rear window

One of those rear quarter holes will become a fan intake with thermometer rigged to it.

I’m then going to build a decent dog cage out of box. Nice and heavy duty. I then want a cabinet, tool storage behind bulkhead, jacket hangers etc. I think it will be a nice setup.

I plan to weld box onto the floor laterally, sound deaden, ply over the top and near enough create a van rear. I may even use the bulkhead as a frame to ply to then put in a plastic slide pickup style window.

i went to dog trust to adopt and we are just going to get a puppy as the dogs trust basically want you to be a) not working, b) independently wealthy c) have a country estate.
Or so it seemed to me.....

Ironic isn’t it. I was going to give a young dog the chance to do what it was bred to do. Instead it will probably drive an old couple mental. Puppy next year I should think!!

We get rescue dogs. They never understood I would have problem dogs BUT refused to make full payment when I can get a mutt for free.
Springer spaniel rescue were good as most dogs could be under6months as this is the most crazy time for them & new owners don’t want the taz devil. they were concerned when they house viewed us & said too small.3 bed house no kids with secured garden. Then explained we have 2 horses & this is where they go.
It’s mad you have to jump through hoops to give a dog a better home than a kennel block with no company.

if your buying a pup they can be even worse on the questions
