Hi , Can anyone help me out with my freelander 1 petrol 2004.
It starts and then dies immediately. Very occasionally it will continue running and you can drive it until you turn the key off again but that's rare . 2 AA men couldnt figure out and neither could an auto electrician.
He suggested getting a key / immobiliser specialist over .
Anyone any ideas. I love this car ( it was my dads ) but don't want to keep throwing money at it and getting nowhere .
There's also a clicking noise in the engine after you tried starting it .
This all started when the cat climbed under the bonnet and pull out the connector to the solenoid! ( coincidence not sure? ) Cheers

Sounds like a battery issue... Possibly a loose negative cable? check for loose ground cables and clean and reinstall the ones you can :)

EDIT: Battery related issue, If the battery is not dying I doubt it is an issue directly with the battery.

Good suggestions above.

Which solenoid? I presume you mean starter.

There is a fuel cut off solenoid on these I believe on the bulk head. Might be faulty. I believe you press to reset it, might be worth giving it a press and seeing if the car starts.

It may not prime every key turn unless it's not been primed for a while, it will also not prime constantly, It will only be for a short period.

Try pressing the button in the top right of the engine bay, it sits at the top of the firewall, spent weeks trying to work out what my fuel issue was, replaced the pump nothing, pressed the button, sorted...

Yes I've tried that .
Do you know how to test the fuel pump with a multimeter? I have 2 black , 1 white and a green ? Thanks again

I do not, however, there is a good 'ol way to test a fuel pump (not a definitive test) but have someone start it and gently but firmly tap the top of it with a hammer, like a starter motor and see if it continues to idle, if it does, I would replace the pump
