Hi All I have a problem i'm hope your collective knowledge might help me identify the issue.

Increasingly often when i go to start the disco it just clicks, very much like a car with a totally flat battery, but after trying a few times she suddenly fires up and turns over like the battery is new... Its an auto if this makes a difference... im guessing its the starter motor on its way out but wanted to ask if anyone has had similar problem

It could just be a loose connection. My starter had the exact same symptoms over a year ago. I booked it into my local independent LR specialist to fit a new one. Luckily they are honest and told me the connections just needed cleaning and tightening and just charged me a tenner. It has worked perfectly ever since.

Like GingerPuss stated it sounds like a wiring problem.
Check your battery connections first and work your way back to the starter.

It could be a wiring problem but the solenoid contacts do get spark eroded and become really thin. When it clicks the plunger comes in but just doesn't make contact. After a few attempts it manages it. It will only take a few minutes to check the wiring.

Which one? You have the high current lead which is fastened securely on with a nut and you have the low current lead with the lucar connector. One is fastened on tightly and I don't know what you would do if the lucar connector has failed.

Having thought about it, the lucar connector must be ok or the solenoid plunger wouldn't click. So that just leaves the thick high amp cable. It would take all of about five minutes to check that with a meter.
