Just saw this in Ibiza

anatomical seats, disc-brakes, turbo diesel engines, taper-leaf springs, coil springs, and civilian-specification Forward Control versions before the Land Rover equivalents and there

Blimey how on earth did people cope

Looking at the link seems the Spanish civil guard used these probably where this one came from

Not really classed as a 'Land Rover' by most ...

I'd class it as a Land Rover! Certainly the later models drifted away from their Land Rover origins with Iveco engines, but earlier ones like this are Land Rovers built in Spain. I think they developed a 6 cylinder version of the diesel engine too. Suzuki bought an interest in Santana in the 80s (they built the SJ models there, remember the SJ Santana models sold here?), and from that point on Land Rover stopped sharing the updates with Santana. That's why they never got coil springs (they went for parabolic leafs instead).

IIRC they also built the LT85 gearboxes for Land Rover, used in the 90 and 110 V8s until they strengthened the LT77.

Yes they did make a 6 cyl version of the 21/4, took it up to 3ltr and said to be a beast. Note flat door hinges long before Land Rover too. Later ones had one piece screen before L R as well.
