Carrying on with my Diesel Leak, i have now found the problem and i need a "Special Tool" LRT-12-120 as usual its never a simple case of just taking anything out with me!! its the #4 injector with the sensor on it (it had to be didn't it) there's bubbling on the shaft of the injector so that's where the leak is (he says hoping) and it had a pool of diesel around the bottom of the injector, and im hoping its just a case (once i have the tool) undoing it and hopefully there's some kind of washer there that i can change over so the injector is once again bedding in to the block (or what ever the mating surface is) and its just as simple as that?? so my question is this

What size is the socket for the injectors? (i can always cut the side out myself for the sensor to fit thru)

bosch injectors are usually 27m/m socket , you will find a company called sykes pickavant do a injector socket 27 m/m which due to its design would be easy enough to modify to suit your needs.
firstly though make sure that the diesel collecting around the injector base isn`t coming from the leak off pipe and running down , its pretty common for this to happen as is the little bubbles appearing there this is due to a very small amount of leakage up the side of the injector and nothing much to worry about tbh.
i hope this helps .

Hi Rick thanks for the name and the size of the socket, as you suggested i replaced leak off pipes and there are no leaked from them at all, but i see what your saying, when i first started the job that’s what i suspected at first, the were wet with fuel and brittle too, so i replaced them all hoping that would sort it out, and then i jet washed the engine, and it was all fine (just ticking over) and then the leak started again, but this time because i had a clean engine bay i could see immediately where the problem was, # 4 was the only one with a pool of diesel in the well and there was bubbling at the shaft of it, hopefully its just the washer needs changing, but it stumped me at first Rimmer Bro sell the injectors and say they ONLY come as an injector with the washer, looking at RAVE i know there wrong and i can just get the washer, i think i will go to a stealer as im having problems finding the correct part number on the web (BMW or RR ones) but thanks for the help

no worries dopey , you arn`t thinking that the copper sealing washer is at fault are you ? if so im afraid you will be wrong if you have diesel forming at the injector base and you are 100% sure its not from the leak off pipe or injector pipe nut , then the only other feasable place is the seal between the injector body and nozzle housing , that being the case its time for a exchange injector mate .................sorry !!!!! .

injector body and nozzle housing

Do you mean the injector, and the cylinder head? well to be honest i am (naively & hoping ) thinking it is that!! only because its 25p for the washer or £95 for the injector, so i figure i have to try the washer out first? im sure you understand why

If anyone needs one for reference its

Diesel Injector Socket 1/2"D 27mm (Laser 3298)

Or

Model No: SX024
Drive: 1/2”Sq
Size: 27mm
Depth: 80mm

Hi Dopey, Just been reading about your difficulties. The socket size is 27mm, you need to get a long reach 27mm socket. Cut a slit into the side of it with an angle grinder. This is so that you can pass the sensor wire through the hole. The bad news is 99 times out of 100 they leak around the sensor wire on that particular injector. (Usually you will find that it is hard to start in the morning. )
The bubbles you see around the base of it will be a slight compression leak between the head and the injector. More bad news! - just that one injector on mine cost me £96.00 18 months ago! At that time mine had done 140,000 miles.
Good luck!

anyone remembers about my leaky injector (the one with the sensor) i got that sorted too, after waiting 3 weeks for the WRONG injector, they sent me the correct one in 2 days, and gave me an extra discount, so i paid £60 for it, Landy stealer's wanted £250 so that was a massive saving, anyway so far things are looking good and she's running well
