how did it smash the windscreen when you were braking? Wouldn’t the tyre go forward _away_ from the windscreen?

I was busy doing a cartwheel at the time so it was a bit of a blur:oops:

I suspect that your windscreen would have got broken regardless of whether there was a tyre on the bonnet or not

It was the wheel bending the A post that broke it. It was back on the road within 3 days. The hi-lift jack on its brackets in the back broke away and smashed the truck cab rear windows

so basically stuff in and on the car will break everything glass in a crash o_O I carry a fair bit in mine  might look into a way to secure it all better

The bolts holding the hi-lift brackets pulled through the bulkhead. Maybe larger washers would have helped spread the load

Got any photos? We like photos.
Ok a few photos of the rear folding deck.
First flat giving complete load space.
Second the first section folded over giving access to tools when they are there.
Third middle section folded up to create a seat (not to be used when in motion)
Forth fully folded this gives access to the spare also the spare can be strapped vertically to give more load space. Or spare removed and placed behind front seats giving even more load space.

That works well.

Just renewed my rear safari door and repainted it. SO i dont want to put back the three bolt wheel mount and have bought a Britpart swingaway jobbie. Trouble is i dont want to drill the holes for the new bolts so its still in the garage.... My old door couldnt take the weight of the Boost alloy and tyre and split and bent. I am thinking of using the old mount to add to the rear of the seat back divider in the rear of the vehicle instead. I dont object to losing some space and can moe the two rear bench seats to mae the room i need. Then it wont get stolen and wont damage my nice new rear door either.

Mines on the back door and never been a problem. I also think it looks best mounted there!
I have alloys, but my spare is a standard steel wheel. It’s a lot of lost space putting it inside.
