I suspect that your windscreen would have got broken regardless of whether there was a tyre on the bonnet or not
It was the wheel bending the A post that broke it. It was back on the road within 3 days. The hi-lift jack on its brackets in the back broke away and smashed the truck cab rear windows
so basically stuff in and on the car will break everything glass in a crash I carry a fair bit in mine might look into a way to secure it all better

First flat giving complete load space.
Second the first section folded over giving access to tools when they are there.
Third middle section folded up to create a seat (not to be used when in motion)
Forth fully folded this gives access to the spare also the spare can be strapped vertically to give more load space. Or spare removed and placed behind front seats giving even more load space.
