Hi all

I have been in the process of bleeding the fuel system in my 89 Defender 110 and have managed to shear off the bleed screw on top of the fuel filter housing, its sheared off within the casing so I can't remove it.
Do you think the best bet will be to just get hold of another fuel filter housing unit from a scrappy?

try wedging a screw driver in it and use that to unscrew the fooker

Try using an Easy-out tool!

If you can drill a small pilot hole into what is left of the screw, fit the easy-out which is a left hand threaded removal tool.

the problem with them easy out jobbies is that they are made of a hard steel so when you try too hard it snaps off leaving you with a hard steel bit stuck in the bleed nipple. which you then have to try and get out. use a screw driver first ; if you try too hard with that it will slip out. if you can get the bit with the busted nipple free of fuel,try a bit of heat on it with the screw driver before rushing out with yer hard earned to purchase more tools.
you can also drill most of it out and re-tap the bugger, if you can ensure you get all the swarf out of the fuel system.

Thanks for the advice so far!
I had a go with a wedging a screwdriver in but didn't get much joy,
So I think the next job will be to try drilling it out

it all depends how tight it is whether the screwdriver works or not. if its slack enough it would just unscrew with no hassel. i've used them easy out things in the past and they do work but like i said if they snap you're in deeper **** than before.
as long as you drill down the center and not orf to one side you should be ok.
if you remove as much metal as possible you might get away with just running a bolt down it to clean out the threads.. if you don't got no tap and dies.

take off the filter and see if it projects far enough inside to get a grp with pliers.
