For confined spaces, IE the landrover I use a butane iron and I've taken to using solder splices on the landy. One of the previous owners was definitely a wiring butcher.

In the workshop is a solder station, and an antex 25W.

At the model railway club we have a Weller, my old Weller died probably 30 years ago.

At work we have maybe 20 soldering benches, fully rigged up with air extractors etc, the bench i occasionally use, has two solder stations and a pen iron, all set up with different tips.

I was lucky when work was forced by regulations to stop using lead solder, they gave away the old stocks, I got 3 large rolls.

Is this thread resurrection a case of spam by a...... wait for it.......Merkin?

Lol,

funny enough I recently got a Dremel soldering iron kit , mainly for working on the disco , considerably easier to use and must confess there’s like a small shield attachment which I’ve found perfect when doing heatshrink

Also really like the dremel grinder , got some stainless steel brushes which were perfect when cleaning earth terminals , posts etc

ps, hope ur keeping well

That Dremel portable soldering iron is what I have also.
It’s a great bit of kit once you get used to using it and the butane flame.

Got the dremel angle cutter but got this long neck angle grinder where u can fit an assortment of 50mm blades, flapper discs ,etc which was perfect for cutting off seized drop links on the D3
