I'm new to this forum so "hi!", I've got a '97 Defender that has definitely seen better days, but at the same time, it's still going relatively strong and has a tremendous amount of character.

I asked one of my close friends recently about buying a new Evoque. He actually laughed and said he thought they weren't 'proper' cars but that they were rather more like plastic toys.

I love the look of them but would like to know what sort of Land Rover you all prefer as it seems that LR owners can become a tad divided when discussing the various models :)

When I had a series 3 a brother in law said he'd always fancied a propper landrover. I said yeah you should get one Speshurly living up the sticks. Well when he told me he had bought one I couldn't wait to see it. Being a big lad with high iq and an ex rugby player I expected a tidy straight defender. And I wuz greeted wif this silver gaylander ffs :(
What a nob.
 
I have a friend who bought a brand new Evoque which is used for the school run. It hasn't even done twenty thousand miles and already has had problems. A drive shaft had to be replaced a couple of thousand miles back and recently new ball joins which they recon was caused by pot holes on the road in the Brighton area. Can't see one of those surviving a trip across Morocco when it can't even survive the school runs.

That doesn't sound very promising - although it still won't stop my missers from wanting one! I think she's sick of riding around in my ye olde defender with the knackered seats.
 
A friend of mine did 88,000 miles in an Evoque and said it was "okay", he has now got a Mazda CX-5 which is " much better and twelve grand cheaper". I have a CX-5 as well, and a Defender - at a push the Defender will do everything the Cx-5 can do except 60mpg, the list the other way around is a bit longer..............
