if you were near me mate i would do it for you but alas travelling to Kent is a big ask

That's very kind and I would have jumped at the chance had you been closer.

And is it worth me sorting a new expansion tank and cap at the same time as the thermo mod? Is it just a new tank or different type?

cooter, when you fit the prt system you need to replace the existing thermostat which is the fiddly annoying part of the job, also you need to find someone who is confident at bleeding the cooling system after fitment!

er ok, replace with what? Another identical thermostat? as well as the new mod one?

Nice one, ta for that.

So to confirm, my shopping list is the rubber hosey thermo thing, a blanking wotsit to replace the original thermostat and a few litres of coolant.

Can't seem to find that blanking wotsit on that Rimmerbros site. And should the coolant be a certain type?

Thanks again everybody, remember you're all helping my Freebie have a longer life!! Although I must admit part of me is thinking "if it aint broke then don't fix it".

Check Paddock Spares for the blanky bit. You will need the pink OAT coolant, get the concentrate from Euro Car Parts or sumpfink.

The most important thing you can do it to be vigilant against coolant leaks, even the smallest one can be indicative of a larger problem.

Will.

Excellent thanks again.

Actually I've just found that blanking thing on the rimmerbros site so will be ordering both that and the hosey thermo thing from them in the next coupleof days. They seem to be much cheaper than anyone else, I'm assuming that's a good thing!?

I'm also wondering whether to renew the expansion tank and cap, is this worth doing? Or at least just the cap?

One of the main problems is that owners never check the coolant level form one service to the next and then a small water leak becomes a warped head.

There is a mod to retro fit the latter coolant level sensor if you can still get it.

PDA500350 Coolant level sensor kit - RHD - VIN WA600476 to YA574674
PDA500360 Coolant level sensor kit - RHD - VIN 1A574675 to 5A476242

good man ;)

search or ask for the best methods to fit :)

btw the jiggle valve in the inlet manifold is the anti-christ and should be removed

Shouldn't be too hard to fit it seems clear when holding it up what goes where , famous last words I know

if you find a stat in the rear of the engine butcher that, don't buy the blanking plate.

i recommend the expansion tank upgrade too ;)

Have you got the tank mod mate? What's it like to fit I assume there is wiring?

no wiring mate

just a larger expansion tank wiv a screw on cap that holds pressure betterer ;)

the low coolant warning thing (respect to MHM) is summat i've yet to fit
