I have recently bought a £2k 4.6 HSE with the expectation of spending money to bring it up to standard (hadn't quite anticipated how much!!??). The best advice I could now give anyone in getting a P38A would be to expect it to cost about £4-5K even if you only pay £2k for it. Lots to replace and renew, I have had to replace alternator, starter motor, airbags, battery, radiator etc. etc. that's without even discussing chips and HT leads, oh and LPG service. It's a good job its light on fuel!!!??

I've just bought a 1996 P38 HSE with an LPG kit. It runs sweet on petrol but doggish on LPG. I'm new to gas - where do I start? You mention LPG service. Any ideas of cost?

Any advice gratefully received

If battery has been fully disconnected the system needs re-setting up / re-syncing with ECU.

LPG system should be serviced once a year, which should include, new fuel filters "sludge" removal from tank, and re-syncing with ECU, along with checks on the general condition of the system, tank, pipes etc.

I will be paying £60 + VAT, at Lloyd Ash (Bridgewater - Somerset).

Sounds the likely cause. I'll find an LPG centre near me and get them to do it and the service too.

Thanks

Good news!!

Hertsautogas are the heroes of the hour. A dodgy O2 sensor was sending too much fuel (whether LPG or petrol) so thats why it was running lumpy. An LPG service and a new sensor and my P38 is now running sweet. 50 Litres of LPG for under £25 filled her up. I think I might be getting over the write off of my previous P38 and start to like this one.
