hi guys anyone no of a good tool to get snapped glow plugs out as i have just snapped five and saved one i have looked at the link that freelaner has on the site and was just looking to see if there was any other options out there with out taking the head off cheers

Opps.....

I guess you couldn't screw an Easyout into it?

These have a reverse cutting thread, drill into the stud, screw it into the stud in the direction of undoingand as the Easyout cuts its way in and grips, the stud turns to come out!

Not knowing the makeup of the glow plug, there may not be anything to drill into and grip onto with an Easyout but yer never know!

i do have a set of these butt there from screwfix and called by another name and there pretty sh**y ill look for a better set now i think cheers

I have snap on extractors but a fair way and last time we had a snapped one in a slitty couldn't drill it even with tungsten carbide drill bit

The problem I find with easyouts is that they are tapered and tend to expand the threads and tighten it even further if that makes sense.
having said that its still worth a try.

i hate easy outs..cause more grief than they worth,espically if one snaps!

i use reverse cut drill bits..drill into and if you lucky winds out snapped whatever..problem you got is bits falling into head...

where they snapped..piccy?

How about try banging a torx tight into it and undoing. Try with plusgas/pen oil and when engine is warm. pics

Silly question, but if he has snapped all but 1, how is he going to start it to get it warm? I know it's a compression engine, but surely they still need the glow plugs to help start?

Should start without them I think, might take more cranking maybe ?

Unless its pretty cold ?

Can't see how the OP has broken all but one ?!

Maybe stop after the second and think " I must be doing something wrong here ?"

200tdi defender turns over 8 times before starting without glowplugs working

Most effective way I have seen of getting out a snapped glow plug, was to drill in the centre of it, then cut a left hand thread I it.

Place a left handed thread bolt in the new thread and tighten up till the plug comes out, some penetrating fluid and heat will also be needed
