Mine was like that, and worse, until I had my injectors reconned. ALL problems solved then. I'm beginning to think most of the running and smoking issues can be related to them. Now I know most injector/diesel specialists have a vested interest, but their advice of recon/replace every 100k miles does tally with what we are finding...

If youre concerned about smoking you shouldnt get the SDI injectors. It will only be worse. Spend youre money on a proper remap instead.

Yeah they will. But the SDI injectors put out more fuel. So with the SDI iinjectors you will get to much fuel across some places on the power band. The nozzle spray is also different and unburned diesel will again generate smoke. But, you will gain some power with them and its cheap L-series tuning if you doesnt mind the smoke.

I didnt read the thread so i just had it for me that you where after SDI injectors for some more hp's. So those injectors will cure your problem. But they will smoke under some load/heavy pedal.

spent all morning taking all the timing cover off and looking at the timing

so line up the cam marks and slot the flywheel pin in

and then go to try the fuel pump pin

slots straight in so the timing is completely bang on and timing can not be the cause of my smoke
