Good morning.Having rested my D1 XS with just 100k for 2yrs l decided to get her back on the road again.But now she smokes badly.l did over 30 miles yesterday but no change.Engine is still sweet but it just blows off black n blue smoke worse with high revs.If it's turbo where can l get one plz?

If it is the turbo, you will be using a lot of oil and the turbo hoses from the turbo will be oily inside.

I assume that you are aware of run away diesels due to turbo seal failure? If not have a google of it then view some examples on YouTube.

I obtained a second hand turbo off eBay when mine failed. Cost about £90 from memory but that was 7 years ago.

If it's not been run for a couple of years it could be a stuck ring, perished valve stem seal, collapsed breather pipe.
If the turbo was good before why would it be dead now.

Don't guess check and test and start with the simples

Take off -

turbo to intercooler hose
intercooler
intercooler to manifold

clean all (noting if the intercooler is full of oil - as in can pour out)

put back on

(if theyre all clean ish, its somthing else - they will be oily anyhow, but only surface, not pourable)


engine can pressurise, and force oil through good turbos - breathers / drains etc can cause this.

others -
valve stem seals
head gasket
stuck ring?

Took it for another run today n she drives sweet and smoke has all most all cleared now.lm baffled
