hi all went out in the range rover p38 this morning had a lot of smoke after a wile it seemed to clear smelt oily can any one help please

could be the turbo on its way, how mechanically minded are you? could you take a turbo hose off?

like the Gman said best to check your turbo.....your burning oil from somewhere and turbos' a prime suspect......how long did it take to clear.....a minute or 2 on firing up or longer?.....was it a big cloud under exceleration?

it took about 15mins to clear and yes more on exceleration

To my mind thats gotta be the turbo.....not my area really, I tend to take 'em off, but you do need to get it looked at cause if it gets bad enough it can run your engine flat out all on its own  Dont know what your up for doing yourself but there's plenty here that could walk you through it better than me........must be loads of info if you do a search

thanks for your reply will do a search and see how it is next time i go out one of my thoughts were maybe the breather was frozen

What was the temperature outside? My DHSE doesn't smoke but my old Pajero used to smoke like mad on a very cold start.
