Sorry to drag this thread on again but the green sensor didn't fit the threads were to small so I am wondering if i just have a awkward engine are the sensors different on m51 Range Rover engine and say omega or beemer I'm totally confused right now

Wrong one, must be green the black one fits at the back of the head on 1999 and on cars to switch aircon fans on if there is an overheat. I gave part number of green one in an earlier post. No wonder it's gone tits up. First one behind pump is either brown (single pin no aircon) or blue (twin pin) if aircon is fitted. Next one is green ECU sensor. Next one is black overheat sensor.
I had the a look today and the green one was first at the front it was a twin pin then black at back cannot remember the middle colour

First one should be brown one pin no aircon, blue two pin with aircon temp gauge sensor, second one green ECU sensor, third one black overheat sensor. Green one is in wrong place. Will not run right until you fit sensors in correct places.

Did you upset any pipes under the manifold, the one going to the fuel filter boost sensor ,Check it for splits and that its still attached at both ends.....;)

Never touched anything it's drove great for 800 miles this weekend but the last 200 on way home it started to play up again the only thing that I did notice was the air con fans were kicking in quicker even though the temp gauge hasn't raised above centre

Check all the little vacuum pipes. Also the filter inside the wing behind the suspension block for the little air valve.

o_O ok now I'm intrigued. my 97, with air con, has the brown single pin, then a green, then a black with nothing to connect to it. Is it at all possible that they fitted the black one for the fun of it in 97? otherwise, wtf is in my 97? sure don't look like its the original head at least :/

We've had this before, mines a 99' with no black sensor at the back of the head...and no plug for it??

Is your inlet manifold plastic or ally?

MY 1997 uses single pin Brown sensor for dash gauge. MY 1998 and on uses twin pin Blue sensor for dash gauge. Green sensor is for engine ECU. Black sensor for over heat sensing, only fitted MY 1999 and on. The OPs car, who i was replying to, is X reg so my comments regarding sensor colours and placement are correct for that vehicle.

So is it the same engine apart from the inlet and egr
Yes basically. Although depending on year model and make of car fitted to i think valve stem diameters can be different. The cylinder head can be either alloy manifold only or capable of accepting both with modified stud positions. Early heads do not have a casting with alternate stud locations.

Its not a brake sticking ,holding you back ,just looking from a different point:rolleyes:
no it will happily do 70mph then for no reason it will only do 50 max when you hit the smallest of incline or put your foot down its like the overdrive or kick down whatever it is called doesn't work it is a bit like it hits first or second but won't change to 3rd
