well after reading all this, I still thought it wouldnt make much difference but thought i would give it a go as i had nothing to loose took all of 5 mins to do and its made a huge difference only moved the diaphragm and star wheel 1/4 turn and the fuel delivery adjustment screw 2 full turns, its still not going to set the world alight but its so much better, deffo gets a 100% thumbs up from me:D

Thank you

OK, have read this several times over several weeks, not sure if the tweeks will cure my problem, which is that when opening the old girl up she throws out some black smoke, but then back off pedal and cruise she stops, so will just the smoke screw backed off a touch under the cap stop this ? only under load she smokes a bit, done the EGR remove / decat and problem seems slightly worse, any advice

Scrap it!!

Have just read this thread - going to carry out the 3-point mod to the fuel pump in the week as the various comments pretty much sum up the sluggish problems I'm having with my 1994 300tdi Auto.

Massive thanks to V8Jon for his input & pictures on this. :5bcheers2:

This may have been answered already, but will this mod improve low down power i.e off road aswell as on road improvements?

Yes mines a lot better,it increases fuel on low boost so power at low revs is increased and you get better throttle response.

Just a simple question to all that played with the fuel pump. Nobody fitted an EGT gauge to see how much it impacted the exhaust gas temp playing with those settings? To me installing an EGT gauge would be the first step prior to installing an intercooler an playing with the fuel setting in order to play on the safe side.

This is very true. ^^^

Never fitted one to mine and it's now done over 6000 miles since the pump tweek and 1000 of that was in the south of France in 80 degree heat fully loaded with camping gear. Still running fine and no melted pistons yet :D

Just done these adjustments to my 97 300TDi, unfortunately being pressed for time I chose the "Adjust the lot at once and hope for the best" route. I drove it round the block with no major smoke problems so I will see how it goes for a few days and try it properly when I get time.

Great thread regarding the pump tweaks im quite use to the stedy pace of landrovers so am quite happy to leave the pump alone if there are any short term or long term effects likely?.
If there arnt then il give it a little tweek but but presumebly after pump tweeking egr removal cat removal etc somethings must feel the strain if so il just stuck to the performance im use to. What do you think
thanks

I think that given this quote:

That's all the persuasion I need to carry out the mod as testing it to the max doesn't get much better than that. :car:
