Hi everyone, yesterday i was cruising along the M1 in a 3.9 disco 2 auto from 1996 and it started to slightly lose power briefly, then pick up again. it started to do it regularly almost in time with something, it would go then lose a bit then go again etc. It was doing this and i thought it could be lack of fuelm or something. I filled her up and off i went. Everthing seemd fine for miles but then it started again and continued on and off for the rest of the journey. The car is super smoot otherwise. Can anyone suggest a known fault or perhaps a known specialist in west london? Cool if you can!

Was it running on LPG or petrol when it happened. Either either way it sounds like a good service is in order. Fuel filter and plugs sound like the order of the day.

I had this years ago on an old car, it turned out to be the fuel filler cap vent was blocked. The car would lose power and even sometimes stop, after a short while the car would start and run fine for a few miles only for the same thing to happen again.

It seems the cap vent was partialy blocked causing a vacuum in the tank, when the engine stopped the tank pulled in enough air for the car to restart, if I went to a garage and undone the cap you could here a 'whoosh', I drove the car with cap for a day or so with one of those plastic temprary caps on and it run perfectly. Fitted a new cap and the fault never returned.

Try it if nothing else it eliminates that area but it does sound like fuel starvation, when was the fuel filter last changed?

regards

Dave
