after curing the leaks of course.

I decided to remove the rear seats from me 3door disco and create a van/camper.

Still got the rear bulkhead to sort. It's gotta fold down once the front seats have been tipped forwards. which will give 6ft exactly from door to end of base.

BUT been a disco. I discovered a leak from below the alpine light. Which was weird as I've sealed em with black rtv silicone. so stripped the plastics out and found this.

So had a look outside and found it had rotted thru just below the gutter. Bought a can of expanding foam and filled the box section.

Trimmed the foam after it had set and sealed the rear side panel for it's full length under the gutter

Hopefully that shud cure that leaky bit just another 180 leaks to cure now.

i got a feeling minty is gonna end up sleeping on top of pikey cause i ant gonna lend him me foam underlay :D:D:D

This is what I'm doing to mine, still haven't finished it yet though but I have made the storage boxes that create the bed base and the section that folds down once the seats are tipped forward.

I'll have it finished in time for the may meet..............promise:D

I have a leak that i've been trying for ages to find in exactly this spot. Its not rusted yet and there are no holes visible outside, i thought the seam between roof and sides was in the gutter, is it really under the gutter???

Wondering if i should seal along the joint as shown here??

Its a pain in the arse.

BTW i like the camper idea.

I'm 5'10" and have spent countless nights sleeping in the back of mine. With the back seats folded forward I can stretch out corner to corner with no problems. :D

I tried that once in the back of my gaylander and it was just impossible, even though I'm only 5'6"! It may be possible if I took the rear seats out altogether. (instead of folding them) but that seems like too much hassle.

Imo if I felt the need to do that again, I'd just stay in a hostel instead. They're around £13 a night and you usually get shared kitchen facilities + free WiFI and many hostels also have a bar. There's hostels in most cities and imo they're a great laugh.

I usually use Hostels Worldwide - Online Bookings, Ratings and Reviews to find them.

I have been looking at bunk houses for a wales trip in the new year, have used a bunk house in he past and they are great, better then a cold tent of a car.

So you get the thumbs up from me.

I've slept in my Disco 2 a few times... I'm 6ft5 and in the end settled on sitting sideways on the rear bench with my head up the door.

(there was stuff in the boot).

Passenger seat was comfy too when it was fully reclined until it stopped going backwards and forwards :(

you need a raised bed then...

basically make a wooden frame to support a double sized bed at the same level as the bottom of the windows.

on a d1 5dr you can rest it on the door handles for the rear doors.

anyway, thats a good size, esp with the front seats forward, and you have plenty of room underneath for your gear.

gives you an extra dry bed if you go wading with someone asleep in the back (think endurance camel trophy :D)

cheers

Yes I finished it. but have bought another disco and am about to sell this one so it'll be getting ripped out and the seats put back in it.

PS wanna buy a leakfree discovery. :D:
