Have you not put that additive in the gear box yet?

Not yet. I'm going to do another fluid change first. Hopefully I'll get that done this weekend. The shudder went away for a 1000 miles after the last change. But I used auto last weekend which showed the shudder is back.:(

Strange that. I hope it is just the fluid, but it does make me wonder if there is an issue with the TCM. As it changes ok in tiptronic yet can shudder in auto.
Maybe it's program in the auto mode is corrupted as it's been compensating for the worn fluid and hasn't reset itself. Mine reset after I ran the backup TCM I have and left the original in the cellar for a month or so. Ran like a dream when I stuck the original back in and still does. I only get the odd lurch from 1st to 2nd in auto mode when I'm sat in heavy traffic, but I just knock it into neutral for a light change when that happens and it sorts itself out.

It still shudders when the TC locks, unless I back off the throttle as it does so. This is why I've been using Command Shift, as I know when it's about to lock.
I'm hoping another fluid change cures the shudder, but I'm doubtful it will. I can see me using Shudder fix at regular intervals to keep it at bay.

Just a quick thought, your autobox cooler isn't blocked or airlocked?
Doubtful I know.

YES!!!! I've found that sodding rattle that's been bugging me for months.
It only rattled when hot, but, my God was it annoying. I've pushed this and that, pulled the other, pressed stuff, hit stuff, but to no avail.
So, I had the afternoon off and it's hot, so I went and found the offending rattle. It was the copper washer on the bolt, see picture, at the bottom of the glove box, even though it was on tight. So a bit of gaffer tape to the rescue and it's gone. If you wondered, the white stuff is grease that needs cleaning off, I just can't be arsed at the Mo :)

Don't tell the wife!
Managed to sneak out for a moment, fixed the courtesy wipe function on the wiper stalk:)
Back to decorating.
Mike

Purchased:
1x expansion tank
2x trailing arm rear bushes
2x anti roll bar bushes
Lots of new bolts to replace old ones
And some rubber restorer.
Now I just need some time to fit it all.

If I were you I would get the decorating done first :p

So, the decorating is done! Until the wife finds something else.
Took the manifold off to get to the glow plugs. Put loads of penetrating oil on the threads so that can work its way in so they don't snap when I take them out.
Whilst I had it off I cleaned the MAP sensor and the air filter. No dirt to speak of in the manifold, just a little bit of oil.

And for those of you with bad eye sight

New expansion tank fitted. Nice easy job, took about 15 minutes.

Put it all back together, test drove it and no check engine lights.

Any tips on getting the glow plugs out greatly appreciated:)

Mike

Glow plugs can be a bigger to remove if they are seized. I couldn't get 1 of mine out, even after loads of Plusgas and heat from a blow torch.:(

This is what's concerning me. I'd rather leave the old ones in rather than break one.
3 off them work 90-100% of the time, with the other one being rather intermittent. This is preferable to a snapped plug.
But I will have a go, just carefully.

Wow what a difference, can I have your old one ? I have to take the cap off mine and peer inside !

Mine starts on the 3 new plugs I fitted last year. It does misfire a bit but clears almost immediately once running.

Just buy one off EBay. They cost less than £15 including the cap.

Yes have seen them on there, I guess your happy with the quality ?
My water pump failed so was for ever topping up and of course I forgot to replace it once and drove off without it.
When next in uk my friendly dealer relieved me of £10 just for the cap !

I know you'll all cringe but it looks like it's leaked for years and of course the previous owner used only tap water ( salty ) so you can imagine the state it's in.
It still has a mystery leak but I top up with anti coagulant which is all I can find here.
