reading these threads makes me want to do another cummins, but it seems like its gone from a conversion that shocked everyone:D (14 years ago!)to everyone has heard of and is doing:(

Which means Ive got to think of something far madder to fit or make my own high strength transfer box and dana 60 portals:D
 
Yup, when I first rode in it, the power and noise was so immense that I went partially blind.

Although that might have had something to do with the injectors leaking diesel straight onto the exhaust manifold :rolleyes:

And RE: Cummins one-oh-ones, I'm not sure yet whether to build ultimate Cummins 101 or ultimate Cummins 110 DCPU. But now that my Td5 has been sold I'm in the position to make an acquisition, if you understand :)

A bit more progress over the last few days... Here's the rear spare carrier, now with the two support pillars in place. Each pillar has its top piece sat in place.. These will carry the 100 x 50 RHS that will carry the spares, a couple of work lights and poss a few ariels. :)

Here we are setup 4 hours north of home at the South Australian Land Rover Show in Melrose. We had a great run up, running at 60mph most of the way, and at 70mph once out in the country! The 101's really stable at these speeds, and we even outran a Puma110 on the next hill after he'd overtaken us! He didn't look happy!!!:p

Yesterday, we took part in a small group tour into the surrounding hills on a large wine producing property. Some of the slopes tackled were half a km long and 45deg up or down. Second low box with the Cummins at idle was the speed of choice! Awesome sound, torque and usability! I did have one 'oh crap' moment going up the steepest slope with an awful lot of nothing behind us... The thought of my welded gear and two welded props came to mind... Knowing that 101 brakes in reverse are all but useless, and with my 'average' handbrake, had a prop broken, we'd have been on a roller coaster!! A fast one at that!!! :D

you got a compression/exhaust break on the cummins?

Not yet. There's one on the shelf in the workshop that'll b going on it soon.. just gotta sort out an air ram.. Going to put one on the center diff too, with a flick switch on the gear lever, as it'd b handy to be able to drop in and out of diff lock when turning sharply.
 
Well, the 101 is now well tested. We've covered over 2000km in the last few weeks and the only issue was a loose terminal on the rear of the IGN key switch which temporarily ceased forward motion for a few min! The Cummins performed fantastically, with good speed on the blacktop, and awesome torque and usability off road!! Fuel consumption was brilliant for a 101 coming in at between 11.5 to 12.0 LT/100km. A very happy 101 owner, with a 101 that's now affordable to use!! :p

So, now the nights are setting in here, and the 101 has become the daily driver, I've found I need better lights, and sooner rather than later!! I've got back into the 'Quad Light Bumper' build! Here's the basic shape so far.

Here's the center plate, that sits directly below the front grille. This is fairly thick at 10mm, but forms the top of the sunken center clevis, and also the baseplate for the two winching/recovery points. This plate will be directly linked to the chassis rails via the side plates.

Here's the underside/internal bit of the recessed clevis. There'll be a hole cut in the center of the bumper to form the jaw. I have some Ebay 'Halo/Angel Eye' lights coming for the outer two lights. $100.. If they're crap, they can go on the inside, and I'll buy some std 7" headlights and some HID globes. :)

Was watching a 6BT on ebay as our Isuzu lump needs replacing, don't think we have the time or energy to put a 6BT in the hole though! :eek:

The search continues for a measley 3.1TDI...
 
Ah go on go on go on!! You know you would love it!!!! Did a 120km round trip down to Adelaide in mine today, and was laughing like a teen every time I launched it off the lights and startled the fancy fourbys that thought they'd leave me for dust!!!
