I'm confused. Some sites selling 5 hoses and some selling 3. Me being a numpty what's best?
5 hoses are the full set. 4 can be seen looking at the engine from above, the 5th is accessed from under the car at the back of the engine and is attached to the turbo. Or you could get 6 hoses and replace the air intake hose at the same time.

I believe the 5 hose kit will include a silicone hose to replace the one in my photo that looks like it's covered in a canvas webbing, (top left). If you then stand at the front of your motor with the bonnet open and look down to the right of the fan, there is a hose which will probably be replaced by the last one in your order.
The EGR valve, as I've recently discovered, (thanks Skinny Mike) is the rusty silver discus like object at the front of the engine, (there's a bit more to it than my description!)
Life's a learning curve (unless you're Wammers).

Also watch out for sets that are specific to the pre facelift and facelift models.
The ones with the small straight tube that looks like an after thought are for the facelift models. If it doesn't have that it's for the older TD4'S like mine.
Yes some do come with the air inlet tube, but that's cosmetic only. And some come with the lower turbo hose that you can't see and very rarely fails.

A neat job. Keep the original jubilee clips and wash/de-grease them. If they were the original one's they might be better quality than the clips that come with the kit (I got 'really cheapo clips' with my 'really cheapo' set of hoses). Also tighten the clips up after a you put on a bit of mileage. I've just done a few hundred miles up to and around Yorkshire. The clip on the hose going to the from the 'black plastic thingy' to the EGR (top right) was loose and a few oil splats apparent.
What did you use to cut the hose?

Stanley knife

Did you replace the one at the back of the engine on the turbo.

I used a Stanley knife with a nice new carpet cutting blade when I did mine. It did a nice tidy job.
Cheers. I'll try that next time. I also replaced my windscreen washer hoses. They would have lasted another winter or two, but, heck, why not. The hose is a 2 metre section from Halfords, which is (only) just enough (£14.99). The clips are petrol line connections (also Halfords - £1.49 per pair) and probably only needed for the winter when ice might build up and separate the connections. I still need to tidy mine up.

Keep them then pass them to the next owner as 'extras' for free. Along with this forum's name. And everything else you have kept that you have replaced.
 
Can I ask is it worth swapping pipes for silicone ones or wait till old ones have had it then change them

I changed mine three years ago just before setting off on a trip across Morocco. When I looked under the bonnet at the old ones they appeared fine, until I revved the engine right up. Then you could see them swell up. I paid something around the £60 mark. Its a easy job to do and I did notice quiet a difference. I have no regrets.
