Hi I recently got my first disco and I am keen to help the engine a bit as it feels like a bit of a tractor you know the power is there but its got no real grunt.

I have sorted the leaky rocker gasket with a new one and the leaky lift pump by replacing also, but people keep going on about blanking the egr valve.

I understand the advantages of the mod but I'm very tempted by all the silicone hose kits which kind of finish the job. do they have a positive impact on performance or do the bright colours just brighten up the engine bay?

also is there a big difference between the forty quid ebay jobs and the hundred quid plus branded ones?

cheers Mike

Personally I don't think they make a difference unless you have tweaked the pump and upped the boost pressure.

Also how long have the original ones lasted? New original equipment should be sufficient in standard guise.

Having said that, I have them fitted to my 200 as I couldn't find original ones at the time and these were a similar price!

true I suppose I should have asked given the choice should i go for OEM or silicone as they are similar price.

I'm still drawn to the bright colours of the silicone option tho ;)

Rubber hoses will break down over time with exposure to oil and heat, and the Td5 ones have a tendency to de-laminate internally and obstruct airflow. Silicon ones are fit and forget.

i'll second that - apart from mines a 300tdi, they do look pretty though :)

I had some on a Mazda Bongo they were great, they were a nice blue, and they set off the engine a treat. I used to lift up the bonnet on camp sites so as every one could see them. They made a nice contrast with the red leisure battery cables.

What colour would anyone suggest for a 300 tdi, or would you guys get boring black rubber ones.

I have silicone hoses on my 300.... waste of money!
Although they look pretty and may not delaminate over time.

but if you think they will make a difference to performance, think again. this is a two tonne beast with the aerodynamics of a wardrobe.
