I am looking to make some side steps to go with some rock sliders I am making. How far can these stick out from the side of the vehicle measured from the flat side panel/door?

These will be removable so I would not use them as tree sliders - just steps in and car par protection!

I know their is something about nothing can stick out further than wing mirrors, but they are adjustable and I don't want to fall foul of the law.

Hints and tips on what other can and cant do things would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Mick, why not just buy/install combined tree and rock sliders, then there's no need to have additional steps.

I have these on the Ninety...there's no need for side steps

I like to tinker so enjoy a bit of fabrication. I have had a lot of the parts laser cut and already and have made one of the box sections. I like to put my own slant on things so will enjoy the design and manufacture.

Interesting question. I reckon bolt on bits would come under the same regs as an over hanging load which is a max of 305mm either side (presumably from the widest part of the vehicle...wheel arches in your case) so you should be ok with a small spiral staircase :D
