As the title says really, had some time on my hands so thought I would join the 'side exhaust' club :D

Got myself some flexi piping - 60mm internal diameter, and 500mm length for £15.00, and a tax disco holder for a motor bike (as has longer bolts and nuts on the end for the trim piece at the vast amount of around £4.00 delivered ;) )

Went to work with the drill and angle grinder - cut off the back box, drilled out a hole for the exit - fitted the tax disc holder then used an old piece of 2.5 inch pipe I had left over from a decat pipe (another car project) for the new 'tail part' and jobs done.

I couldn't be bothered to weld up new brackets, so made some up out of some old strips of metal I had - attached one to the clamp and the rear bumper, and the other to the bracket for the mudflap.

All in all, about 1.5 hours from start to finish with a drink in my hand ;)

Enjoy the pics...

Newbie question, WHY?

Years ago my boss had a yank tank. When the exhaust needed replacing the garage fitted side exhausts (why I don't know). One day when setting off from the lights pedestrians started shouting and chasing down his car. Apparently a poor pooch got a face full of exhaust gas and keeled over. Luckily no harm done and the dog was OK.

Why? Just cos

Personally i think it looks stupid and is pointless but each to their own I guess

Yes MOT is fine.

Why?? I did mine because I kept catching the back box on pay and play days, so a side exit solved that.

Ha this is a brilliant way of forcing all the idiots in lycra, aged between 48 and 70 off of the roads, racing bikes that never race.

:D

does removing the back box have much effect on how loud it is?

Not all,i lost my back box last year, took about 2 months untilll i noticed.
It was only when i got under the truck to look at something else i noticed it missing!.

If your running with no middle box,its not much loader loosing the back box. It'll sound different only because the sounds now out the side.

I noticed a big difference when i took out the middle box, so much so i put it back, but no real difference with no back box tho
