Having got my Series 3 along with 2 SJs well and truly stuck up a mountain today (there still up there now!) I'm going to have to invest in a winch. Problem is there isn't always trees around so a land anchor will be ideal. being a tight git I'd like to have a go at making one first. Anybody made there own on here? Any chance of some pics and tips for making one?

Ta, Ad:)

Ingredients.

3x long strong pins to stick in ground
lots of rope
**** off sledgehammer

works for me

Look on the internet for pictures

i use some of those steel erectors pins, bout 4 ft long x 35mm thick , 3 will do nice at a good 45 deg angle spaced evenly ****ted in with a big ammer, job done, seen it done with a scaffold pole too

what are steel erector pins?

dunno what ther really called, i were workin on a site and the steel erectin guys had long pins or bars , as i described with a big point on the end , and a ball to hit on the other, dunno what they were doin with them , but four kinda got thrown on me trailer in the dark ,:D:D

ooh ah, think they were fer lining holes or something up , who cares ! like a crowbar or somethin, they drive in the ground nice any way

i'v seen em made from them steel spikes that are sometimes used for a temporary fence, 3 of em through a steel plate with a shackle on end

Army surplus places sell em as well 2 flat bars with holes in em and 8 or so steel pins to drive in thru the holes into ground forming a Vee shape.

I reckon he means summat like this
Ground Anchor Plate | Cast Ground Anchor Base, Denbigh Army Surplus

And 5 of these buggers would do the job if linked by a length of chain with shackle on the end.
