nowt till ya hit hard, frozen or rocky ground. Then they don't dig in. & put em too close to the top of a steep slope and they'll pull half the slope on top of you.

Of course there also the option of buring your spare wheel as an anchor, pain in the ass I'm sure, but think of the weight you save in an expedition vehicle
and alledgedly in soft sand/snow it is more effective than any off the shelf anchor :alien:
but allegedy (from someone else) a pull pall is the only choice for soft desert sand
It seems pretty unanimous that for UK Conditions the spiked ones are best..

I posted a link on me font of all knowledge to a zuid effrikaan site with lots of different ways to make/use a ground anchor as well as different methods of lifting/winching a vehicle using natural materials.
When I used to go snowshoing & ice climbing I made a couple of snow bollards to belay from suppose ya could do the same for a landy but yu'd need to dig a large horseshoe shaped ditch for it to work.

I fink solo expeditions are the motivation for the question, me also thinks another landy is the best option.
Me remembers Carpy and Beaker both being stuck simultaneously, and using each other as ground anchors
so - if he goes with a couple of others, he can use the other two as a ground anchor to pull the stuck motors out????

As Ratty says hi-lift and depending on the ground sometimes not even that as the hole can elongate whilst in use.

Stuck up near some wind farm. Don't think we're supposed to be there after a farmer came along and called us all ****s and told us we shouldn't be there
Got the 2 suzukis free but had no joy with the Landy so a second night it spends out in the wild. Got a Ford Ranger with a winch and the 2 suzukis going down tomorrow, Plan to hold the Ranger in place with the 2 SJs then winch the landy with the Ranger, if that doesn't work then I'm going to have to bring it home piece by piece!
I'll start another thread to show how much of a dope I've been and the predicament I've put myself in

Last person I know who did this returned ti find his disco stripped. Do not publish location not even general location.
Oh and you are a cuunt for going where yu shudn't be. It's illegal and could end up with your landy been crushed for been there.
dont think yu will get much help from us - if yu is orf-piste .
