Seen a few posts today on Face Book where people have had various parts stolen off their Landys whilst at the Billing show.
Headlights, grills, air intakes etc seem to be the main items removed.
I have seen about 10 reports so far.

What are peoples views on this?
Is this no more than you'd expect at a show these days?
Should there be more security in the car parks?
Do you think it is fellow Landy owners doing the nicking.

Interested to hear peoples views.

Cheers

For a number of years there has been a tratter stolen from the Scottish show. It's becoming more common to nick parts from shows. Yer get a whole car park full of tratters for many hours left unattended. Sadly it's owners wanting the bits and prepared to buy second hand which fuels it. I think owners should be warned on the gate and more security.

someone must see people & tools removing stuff.
I know when either of our motors go to shows nothing is on show for fingers to pick up.

People must know these persons/scum who are worrying owners who won't go to shows soon.
Keep us all informed

I'll put the ink up when I get home. No FB on this phone.
I did say on one of the threads i didn't think it was Landy owners nickng the bits, be disappointing if it is.

Here's one of them...

About 10 I've read about. I know it's not a huge mumber given the number of vehicles there but it it's still disappointing at a Land rover event.

According to this guy it is Landy owners nicking the bits

Only time I go to shows is when I can park and camp within the show at a stand, nowadays. That way the landy, such as it is, is sort of better protected due to the flow of people around, than those left for hours in amongst many others Landies with no people around. This is from experience after caravanning at Manby some years ago when the chap camped next to us had his snorkel removed ... At the time my Disco was bog standard apart from front bumper and tyres, so nothing worth nicking!

Heh, just checked and this was 10 years ago! Seems like only a few...

is a very sad time indeed ive had clim air wid deflectors nicked when my landy was parked at malvern last year ,it was not the fact they nicked them but they broke all the plastic trim around the windows to get them off it cost me a small fortune in parts to put right and a day stripping the bloody thing down wtf is wrong with people these days grrrr

and that is why i dont go to shows anymore, i used to be heavily into the air cooled VW scene, the same sort of stuff happened there in later years, mid to late 90's it didnt seem so bad :(

We spent half an hour sat around our two Landys in the car park and a Disco 2's alarm kept going off due to the sun roofs both being open. Nobody came.
As it happened mine spent most of the day without headlights in anyway. Not that they were nicked. They were on the floor behind my seat after one tried to leave the vehicle when it rushed headlong into the lake in low third. Sadly, it didn't manage to escape, so it can look forward to more abuse at Kelmarsh at the end of the month :)

YFO, my S2 is sat looking sad for itself behind the hedge in my front garden. Some thieving git unlocked the front door(I know they ain't exactly Fort Knox) and helped themselves to my floor mounted headlight dip switch.
The thing that I couldn't understand was that a new one cost me less than a tenner on ebay to replace it. That was a genuine Lucas switch too!
When it was in use several years ago, I had the front prop shaft nicked.
The weird thing about that was, they replaced it with one with totally shot UJs.
When I told my parts man, he said I was just imagining it or it was my prop that had just worn. That was until I reminded him that it was HIM who sold me the two new UJs WITH nipples about a year previously, and neither of these UJs had got nipples!

Nearly forgot the reason why I logged in...
The guy who I went with to the show sent me this earlier. An update about the record run.

It will be interesting to see just how many vehicles managed to stick to the rules of 4mph and one car length gap.
By 781 ( my mate in front) we weren't taking part in a record breaking 'parade', we were doing a re-enactment of a Rally Africa stage!
