Hi all,

I have an opportunity to buy an old but functional mk2 defender. presumably you guys an gals have had 'nuff experience owning these thigns and the practicalities there of...

i suppose what i want to know is - what are the pitfalls of owning an old model like this in terms of reliability, running costs and reparation fees etc. If i get this thing now am i likely to be stung financially later on?

I have wanted one of these things since forever! but budget is pretty slim right now so finance is important :(

appreciate any thoughts, opinions, experiences or anecdotes!

you need to research what exactly you are interested in buying as there is no Mk2 defender

You need to learn a few things: :roll eyes: :)

1. Where the introduce yourself section is.

2. that saying 'nuff' instead of the correct word 'enough' is neither big nor clever it just makes you look like a tool!

3. what your talking about.

Just what is a mk2 defender? do you mean a series 2?

of for ####s sake people. i've comes here looking for a little advise from people who he i presumed to know a thing or to and so far i've had sarcasm, patronism, and judgemental annotations over my posts, use of language and lack of expert knoledge.

1 'Roll eyes' - maybe i no longer need to find the introduce yourself section is because i've been made so welcome already
2 - saying 'nuff. is part of my sub culture. it is a lovely big wide world full of interesting quirks of language
3 - what i'm talking about...clearly i don't know exactly what i'm on about - THATS WHY I'M ASKING.

but all of this is incidental and off topic. does anyone have anything that may be of help to my particular line of inquiery? would be of great help. Thanks.

Series 2 Landrover is a sound investment with the obvious pitfalls of owning a classic car, if your not handy with a spanner it's going to be expensive. But if it's a second car you can tinker with it'll be a great enjoyment unlike this website,I came on here a few days ago looking for advice and found it hard work. Good luck on your purchase choice if you go for it feel free to message me and I might be able to help or point you in the right direction

Try being a bit nicer and people might be more willing to help you out a bit more.

Important question is what engine is in it? How old is it? If it has a 200tdi or a 300tdi engine then these are very good, reliable engines, the 2.5NA is a bit of an old sluggish engine. If you are actually talking about a Series land rover (pre-1980 ish i think) then it's possibly a 2.25 petrol or diesel - not great for every day use.

Check very carefully for rust - especially on the chassis

Land Rover's are slow, noisy, unreliable and a pain in the back side - it's more of a way of life thing. if you really want one, it's going to cost you a lot to keep it on the road, if you can do maintenance your self then parts can be cheap - but - avoid Britpart.

Lol and the dummy has been spat

****ed myself laughing lol. Reminded me of that bit in the Shawshank Redemption where they're jeering fatty cos he's new. Then I got a thought in my head of Lukey in the middle surrounded by the LZ lot and we're all pushing him shouting fresh fish :D

Didn't even get chance to run a poll between which one would crack first - Lukey boy or "what engine is in my TD5 90" boy :p

Shawshank is definitely one of my favourite films :)
