Hi all,

Since it's last service four months ago, my d1 300tdi has done about 3500 miles and not used a drip of engine oil.

Apart from a slight black chuff on starting, it does not smoke at all, even if booted a bit, but I cant see how a 17 year motor with 130k on it can use absolutely no oil.

I know the only way a 300 can get fuel in the sump is via the fuel pump but she runs ok and averages what fuelly says below for mpg which includes trailer work.

Can a fuel pump leak and still work or is this the reason she does not smoke at all - not enough fuel? The oil feels ok and does not smell of diesel as far as can tell.

Should I be concerned or not?

forget the age its the maintenace that counts. 175'000 is just getting broken in and should run better yet' good for 300,000+ miles with proper care

:)

Yes it has oil in it, i puts it in myself:)

Yes i worry too much 'cos i've never heard of an old motor that uses no oil, just seems odd.

I'll stop worrying then ;)

Typical Disco owner, if it doesn't need fixing there must be something wrong I dont know about. Enjoy the it why you can, a problem will raise its ugly head sooner or later.

the one thing about 200 tdi and 300 tdi is that even high milers can have extremly good bores ,after stripping numerous engines its very noticeable yes you do get some worn out due to lack of servicing as said above but most have been good, with a new set of bearings would be good to go again, which is something very rarely found in the earlier engines

Yes it does seem odd when there's nothing to fix, i'm not used to that :)

I'll start ****ting it when the level goes up i guess :)

Thanks all.
